Light Your Space and Be Unique

by Alison - on January 30th, 2013

Vintage is in! Retro anything seems to attract attention. For some of us we flashback to our younger days. Others that are too young just think retro equals cool. More unique creations pop up on the market every day. Creative types seem to be looking at what many of us consider ‘old and trash bound’ and turn it into functional products, some even gadget-y. Wish I could say I was that creative!

If you are looking for a way to stand out and charge your gadgets take a look at BOSS Lamps. A creative Canadian electrician decided to put his knowledge to use in a fun way. After acquiring a variety of parts and pieces, scraps and salvage, a line of lamps with special flare have been created. BOSS Lamps offer a sort of industrial looking retro feel for a 40W bulb. The charging station versions include a socket and two USB ports to make it not only stylish, but functional. Available to ship in the US and Canada, BOSS Lamps run from $68 to $92 and are being sold directly on Etsy. So if a combo lamp/charging station makes sense for some table in your life, take a look at a more unique solution.

A Smartphone’s Sensing Companion

by Alison - on January 30th, 2013

Ever run into a product and just say “I wish I was smart enough to think of that”? Yep, found one. Aside from lacking any knowledge about the topics, experience with NASA and a doctorate in who knows what, perhaps you or I could have come up with this innovation. But George Yu and Variable Technologies beat us to it. As our smartphones continue to control and guide more parts of our lives it makes sense to incorporate necessary job functions and even life-saving functions into the phone’s capability.

Meet NODE, a device that enables its attached, state-of-the-art sensors to communicate with your phone. Via conditional Bluetooth or Bluetooth 4.0 Low-Energy, information from the variety of sensors available is sent to a NODE app or â€" down the road perhaps other likeminded apps â€" on your device. Six different options exist for what you can measure with NODE and its modules:

  • Kore ($149): required for any module, it serves as the heart of NODE. KORE contains a accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope to measure motion and space.
  • Chroma ($75): color matching and sample collecting module.
  • Therma ($75): measure temperatures at a distance or where you are via IR.
  • Clima ($50): Senses barometric pressure, ambient light, temperature, and humidity.
  • Luma ($25): Use up to 8 LEDs provide a flashlight or even a camera flash.
  • Oxa ($149): Provides an industrial grade Carbon Monoxide gas sensor. Other gases can be requested.

The professional and personal uses of NODE and the modules are really endless. Quality control on a production line can be aided by confirming the proper paint color of your product. Maybe you conduct house inspections. You could easily measure temperatures and humidity to detect faults. If you are a hiker or biker stop to read the climate and understand if adverse conditions are coming. Check CO2 levels even in your own home â€" while switching modules to make your picture hanging a level process. There are plenty of professions that require a variety of these measurements too. With NODE plus the applicable modules you save yourself multiple devices. I think you get where I’m going with NODE.  Presently, NODE is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 5th Gen, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Mini, Macbooks and Android devices. Yu made it a point to leave the possibilities out there with open firmware & open API. And they will provide Arduino source code as well as iOS & Android source code so programmers can then create the applicable app for the measurements of their users. NODE is rechargeable via micro USB and is FCC and CE certified. Sure, it may be more expensive if you only have a need for one particular sensor. But I think most of us could easily find uses for NODE in a variety of places in our lives.

Who Is At the Door? Check Your Phone.

by Alison - on January 29th, 2013

Crowdfunding has to be one of the biggest buzz words of the last year. Kickstarter and Indiegogo really put a different spin on how to create a product. Unfortunately, many good products don’t achieve funding goals. A new type of crowdfunding site began to emerge to help move these unfunded projects along, give inventors more infrastructure and feedback while also protecting buyers. Christie Street does just that and took on a product that is now funded and slated to launch this summer.

DoorBot looks to be a next generation example of how our phones continue to integrate into and control parts of our lives. DoorBot is a wireless video doorbell that links through your home network to your phone or tablet. Included on the device are a video camera and doorbell. Rather than ringing in the house, DoorBot will ring the app on your device when activated. Whether at home or away, you will immediately see who is ringing. And similar to when a call comes in, you have the chance to speak to them or ignore them. In addition to not missing instructions for delivery people or friends dropping by, DoorBot provides a perfect deterrent for warding off unwanted solicitors. And it can even help you give an illusion that you are home to not encourage thieves.

A few months ago we wrote about Lockitron, which enables you to lock and unlock your door remotely. Combined with DoorBot you can remotely see who is at the door and choose to let them in (or not!). Shipping in July, DoorBot on its own runs $189, Lockitron $179, or sign on for the DoorBot/Lockitron combo offered on Christie Street for $339 â€" and enter the world of remotely controlling access to your home or business.

Grill – Come Rain, Shine or Snow

by Alison - on January 29th, 2013

Whether you are in the midst of Summer or in the depths of Winter enhancing your grilling never hurts. Some continue grilling all year round. Others play it more conservative and just look forward to warmer months. Brookstone offers a couple of tools that empower you to keep on grilling â€" regardless of the elements. And they now ship internationally.

Don’t let early darkness get the best of your cooking. Light your way and leave your hands available for the true chef-ing duties. The Handle-Mount Grill Light, $39.99, gives you LEDs to help you see your handiwork. Clamp the device onto your grill handle and adjust the direction of the light where you need it. Don’t fret if you forget to bring it in as it automatically shuts off after 6 minutes and can withstand the elements.

For the die hard grill master I recommend protecting yourself from the elements. Don’t let mother nature ruin your food or ability. Invest in a Grillzebo™! The metal roof protects you and your grill. Side tables and a hanging rack give you space for food, spices and tools. Rechargeable, overhead lights give you perspective on the whole space too. Sure, Grillzebo will cost you ($999.95) but the 8’x5’ space will be your grilling haven to make the magic happen.

SafeSound announces Airbudz

by Edwin - on January 27th, 2013

SafeSound Products might not be a name that resonates with many of you out there, but just for the record, they are the designer of innovative accessories for active consumers, and have just announced the availability of Airbudz. Just what the heck is Airbudz? Well, they are the first-ever alternative earbud solution in the market that will let ambient noise in, so that you can hear what else is going on around you without remaining restricted to your own world. Of course, some folks out there might dispute SafeSound’s assertion here at being the “world’s first” (we ourselves are wary of that kind of claim always), so leave a comment if you know some other company that beat SafeSound to it, otherwise forever hold your peace.

It has been said that in the past half dozen years, pedestrians who sustained injuries sustained while listening to earphones have more than tripled, and the entire goal of the Airbudz by SafeSound Products is to focus on safety even when one is making use of technology in every aspect of one’s lives. It does not mean that you are plugged in and have no say in being tuned out, as Airbudz lets you enjoy your favorite tunes safely without having to opt for blocking out car horns, sirens, a warning scream or safety hazards.

The Airbudz is best described this way â€" they are alternative earbud attachments which are used when listening to music in environments where it is necessary to be far more aware of your surroundings, such as when you are jogging or taking a walk in the park, just to be safe. Of course, other activities such as running, biking, skiing, skateboarding, and even riding on public transportation would also be ideal for you to take advantage of Airbudz.

You can pick up the Airbudz for $14.95 a pop, and if you prefer a glow-in-the-dark version, it will cost you $15.95

by Edwin - on January 27th, 2013

Everyone wants to go green these days, it is the “in thing”, and you will definitely score brownie points with just about everyone, especially among those Greenpeace activists. Well, here we are with Griffin Technology and one of their latest coups, which would be snagging the exclusive distribution rights of Papernomad products across North America. Based in Austria, Papernomad is a company that develops organic, customizable, tear- and water-resistant sleeves for a range of popular devices such as the iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, MacBook and Samsung Galaxy S3. As they are made of a specially-engineered paper material, they deliver the perfect canvas for personal expression and creativity.

Keavy Murphree, Product Line Manager at Griffin Technology, said, “We are thrilled to bring Papernomad to North America; their products leave a lasting impression on people’s minds but not on the environment. With Papernomad, we offer users a sustainable way to guard their technology, as well as a canvas that allows individuals to express their imagination.”

Each sleeve from Papernomad is made in Europe, where it will use an advanced patent-pending composite of paper, viscose fiber and biopolymer. The paper that is used is made from sustainably forested trees and FSC Forest Stewardship Council certified. As for the other materials in action, those are compostable and organic, including the cotton stitching, hemp pull strap, and signature wool lining that are provided by happy sheep from New Zealand.

What makes the Papernomad product different from the rest? It offers an outlet for creative expression, as the sleeve itself can be marked with pencils, pens, and crayons, something which your kids would definitely fall in love with.

The Papernomad sleeves will be made available for the iPad, iPad mini, iPhone 4 & 5, MacBook Air (11″ & 13″), MacBook Pro (13″ and 15″) and Samsung Galaxy S3 soon, and of course, depending on the size of your choice, it will retail anywhere from $39.99 and goes all the way to $69.99.

Hot Cookie USB Mug Warmer

by Edwin - on January 26th, 2013

There is nothing quite like dunking a chocolate chip cookie or some Oreos into a glass of milk, and munching it down right before you sleep. Of course, brushing your teeth afterwards would be highly recommended, otherwise you run the risk of accumulating tartar and other nasties in your mouth over time. Well, here is a way for you to have fun with cookies, but without the tartar â€" in the form of the $12.99 Hot Cookie USB Mug Warmer, of course.

Basically, it will be able to solve both your cold tea and coffee problems as this unique cup warmer comes in the shape of a cookie, and is USB powered, ensuring that whatever compatible mug you place on top of it will ensure that your drinks will remain at a temperature up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Thing is, some kids might actually be fooled into thinking that this is the real thing, so you might want to be a bit more cautious there.

The Best Electric Knife Sharpener

by Edwin - on January 26th, 2013

Hammacher has had its fair share of “the best” series of appliances, and here we are with yet another one today, where it will grace the kitchen counter. After all, where else would you store your knives, no? The $219.95 Best Electric Knife Sharpener is on our list of gizmos to cover for today, where it is said to produce the sharpest, most resilient edges. After all, during testing, knife blades were dulled through the running of them along cement blocks up to 100 times before testing commenced.

The blades that had gone through the Best Electric Knife Sharpener were said to chop spaghetti squash with little effort, as well as slice smoothly through sheets of paper â€" perhaps even putting a shade of green on Wolverine’s face along the way. As for serrated knives sharpened using this bad boy, they were cut easily through cardboard, whereas lesser knife sharpener models were unable to sharpen any toothed blades. It is said that the Electric Knife Sharpener picked up the “Best” moniker because it relied on 100% diamond abrasives and stropping discs in order to grind and polish an edge while restoring its original sharpness, and best of all is, taking a mere 10 seconds to do so. A built-in magnet will help catch knife blade shavings for an easy cleanup process afterwards, and this has proven to be one of the quietest models.

Caffe Porcellana Stovetop Espresso Maker

by Edwin - on January 20th, 2013

Do you love your coffee, as in you are totally head over heels with it that the manner or preparation must follow certain steps, otherwise you would downright think it came from some mud hole? Well, if you have answered in the affirmative for that question, perhaps it is time you check out the $39.99 Caffe Porcellana Stovetop Espresso Maker. Yes sir, with this bad boy, we are looking at the ability to churn out homemade espresso without having to bat an eyelid. In fact, it is so easy to use, that you might even be able to do so while you’re half-asleep at the stove, although we would not recommend doing so unless you want to run the risk of burning your house down.

The Caffe Porcellana Stovetop Espresso Maker will come across as a traditional Italian-style espresso maker that delivers a separate porcelain pot as well as enameled aluminum base. It works with just about every kind of direct heat stovetop, letting you create your own blend of smooth, strong, delicious, eye-opening espresso without having to mosey down to the nearest coffee chain store.

SOUL Electronics offers Party in a Box

by Edwin - on January 25th, 2013

I am quite sure that all of you readers who grew up in the late 1970s and early 1980s would have had fond memories of boomboxes as you hung out with the rest of your mates, generally subjecting yourself to corny music (in retrospect, as always) and even more outrageous fashion. That happens all the time to me, no worries, but in this day and age, if you were to dust off the best boombox of yesteryear and have an ample supply of D batteries, it will still not be able to get the party started with this iPod and MP3 generation. Taking more than a year of research and development, SOUL Electronics is pleased to announce the portable, wireless entertainment system known as “Party in a Box P910”.

Touted to offer superior performance that is second to none, the $999.99 Party in a Box P910 is said to be the first of its kind that boasts of a variety of functions that have been rolled into one sleek package, and will comprise of an all-inclusive indoor/outdoor portable sound system with Bluetooth, Aux input, Apple dock and HDMI connectivity, now how about that to keep up with the times?

Lan Kennedy-Davis, CEO of SOUL Electronics, USA, said, “We [SOUL] want to take partying to another level so we invented a sophisticated system jam-packed with features that you cannot find in one single audio system anywhere, and you can take it with you in your car, to the beach, poolside, basketball court, fraternity house or the next party. The Party in a Box P910 is the first of its kind, and we are confident it will blow away all your party guests. It is also a surround sound home theatre audio system. The sound is so crisp that you will likely hear words in a movie that you have never heard before if the movie is played through the Party in a Box.”

You know what? It sounds too much like a dream, and the only real way of finding out whether it works as depicted would be to purchase one and give it a go.

Audi’s “Lighting Technologies of Tomorrow”

by Alison - on January 24th, 2013

As previously mentioned, automakers unleashed some tech-y concepts at CES. The autonomous/self-driving cars were a hit. Announcements about the future of in-car technology gave hopes of integrating smartphone-like features into our cars. Audi made a splash with their lighting concepts too. If the picture included above makes you curious, please read on.

Audi was the first to use full LED headlights and have since made them more distinctive looking. Drive towards a current Audi model at night and you can’t mistake their headlights with that sort of ‘angel wing’ look. This year they will launch their Matrix LED headlights â€" which sub-divide each LED beam enabling more lighting or dimming per situation and also incorporate a camera. Imagine the car sensing an oncoming car and automatically dimming the headlights. The Matrix LED lights will make it happen.

With continued advancements in LED technology and even OLEDs you know Audi has some things on the drawing board too. Shown at CES was the concept car above. Not only do the lights look cool but more importantly can provide more safety. Audi is working more and more to enable lights to react to surroundings and be controlled electronically. By enabling lights to react to circumstances theoretically they will be seen further away and through elements the and safety will be increased. See the video below for an example: an OLED-Laser beam tail light. Another OLED technology shown incorporates a thin film of them on the surface which could light up under various circumstances. Maybe as the driver gets near it lights your way to the door. The Swarm (right) will also offer a ‘uni-light’ concept on the rear lights where the lighting sort of swims based on the cars action. Left turn means the Swarm piles to the left for example. Quite a concept for sure.  Face it, right now the lights just look cool, but if safety and practicality come into play they may be onto something. Stay tuned to see where Audi takes their creative automotive lighting.

Touch-Sensitive iPhone Case

by Alison - on January 23rd, 2013

When will smartphones read our minds?! I don’t know about you but sometimes I think “touching the screen is too much hassle.” Sure it is lazy, but you know the day will come. So what happens in the meantime? A Minneapolis-based company wants to bring us closer to the future of further interaction with our phones thanks to touch.

Written about in the Fall, showed off at CES and shipping in the Summer is the Sensus™ iPhone case from Canopy. Though it looks ordinary, this is an extraordinary case. Technology of touch sensitivity makes Sensus stand out. Put the case on your iPhone 4, 4S or 5 (iPad Mini and iPod Touch g5 in the works). The back side and right edge become touch-sensitive, enabling ten touch responses. Screen space is valuable, so rather than letting buttons take up the screen use your case to log an action. Gamers get enhanced control, scrolling while reading won’t take up screen space and easily zoom without mucking up the screen. There are plenty more functions as you get to know the case. How does it work? The built in touch sensors sync with a their app or with specific compatible apps as they become available. Yes, developers may visit the site to register for the development kit. No, you cannot control the phones basic features like dialing numbers. But hey, can’t have it all. You won’t sacrifice safety as Sensus’ industrial design protects your phone TOO. Sensus is expected to retail for $59-$99. Sign up on their site to receive updates and be the first kid on the block to enjoy touch-sensitive case technology for your iOS device.

Pluck that Yolk

by Alison - on January 23rd, 2013

As I have stated before on CG I am a kitchen gadget freak! Look in my kitchen and you will find 4 cheese graters (each suited for different cheeses), 20+ cooking knives (each for different uses), plastic containers in a variety of sized (never know what you have to hold!), half dozen frying pans. You get the point. No, there is not a need for all of it. But it sure is fun! Whenever I see a new device I jump on it. And this is no exception.

Available on ThinkGeek is Pluck the $13.99 egg yolk separator. Simply crack your egg into a container and hold Pluck above the yolk. By squeezing the chamber you create suction to pull the yolk right out. Then squeeze to release the trapped yolk wherever you choose. Yolks are the main source of bad cholesterol in the egg, so Pluck helps you keep the bad stuff out and the good stuff (protein) in.  I know, you can easily crack the egg and do the ‘back and forth from half shell to half shell’ technique. But I end up with shell in my egg 99% of the time. Some of you may not eat eggs frequently enough for Pluck to make a difference. But for those that love cooking or baking with egg whites this device seems a perfect solution. Pluck separates into two pieces and is totally dishwasher proof. You have to love a low maintenance cooking tool. Check out Pluck for the kitchen gadget fan in your life and keep the sunny side out…so to speak.

A Different Sort of Foot Powered Skateboard

by Alison - on January 22nd, 2013

Skateboards seem like such a practical method of travel, especially if you live by the beach or in an area with good pathways. Some of us uncoordinated people in the world weren’t meant to travel by skateboard. Steering is all about finding your balance and being comfortable. Pushing off the ground for power should be easy. But klutzy people like me struggle. At long last. I think I found the perfect skateboard for those of us who struggle or for anyone wanting an easier skating experience or an eco-friendly method of motorized travel.

Straight from a beach-side city in California comes the ZBoard.  Two models of ZBoard ,the Classic and the step-up Pro, provide weight sensing technology tied into a front and rear footpads to help you control your speed. As you step on the front (acceleration) or rear (braking) pad the board communicates your force to the on board computer and the electric motor speed adjusts accordingly. Want more speed? Press harder. Want to lightly brake? Lighter pressure should do. You can achieve max speeds of 15 or 17 MPH, depending on model. You can take on small to medium sized hills, and you can completely brake even on a steep hill. On a full 110V charge (220V available upon request) the Classic will take you 5 miles and the Pro â€" with its Lithium Iron Phosphate battery â€" will carry you 10 miles. Each battery is rated to 250 and 500+ cycles respectively and replacements will be available. With the regenerative braking and minimal power usage the ZBoard is carbon footprint equivalent of up to 1500 miles/gallon. Crazy.  Can you just push and ride? Sure, but expect to move slowly. ZBoards began shipping in October and are currently on a 10 week waiting list, which means you can get it just in time for Spring cruising. The Classic runs $649 and the Pro $949. So whether a skateboard expert or an uncoordinated person like moi, ZBoard provides a weight sensing alternative to standard skateboarding and an eco-friendly way to travel on those shorter jaunts.

Control Your Lumens via Phone with Philips Hue

by Alison - on January 22nd, 2013

Philips, a global leader in lighting solutions, launched Hue at the end of last year which proves to give a whole new take on lighting automation. Usually when we think of home automation we envision complicated computer systems built into the wall. But in reality, with the growth of smartphones and tablets, wi-fi and home networking are enabling more remote control of everyday items. Philips Hue looks to provide personal lighting to meet your changing needs â€" wirelessly via your home network and smartphone/tablet. After the launch of Hue we received a set to evaluate. The light in our lives has never been the same.

SETUP:

The Hue system packaging elicits thoughts of color variety with a functioning color wheel, which doubles as easy set-up instructions on the inside of the box. Each set contains three LED bulbs and the controller/hub â€" the brains of the system â€" and run for $199.95. Additional bulbs are available at $59.95 each. Note that bulbs are standard Edison type (“screw-in”, E26 or E27). Double check the sockets where you intend to use Hue as you may have to get a converter. Using the included hub power cord and network cable, hooking the controller to the home router was a piece of cake but yes, that does mean you need an available port on your router. Before you go further, download the necessary control app. We easily loaded it on both an iOS and Android device. Syncing with the hub was a simple push of a button. Another step you may want to take before getting started is the remote access. Log in on the Hue website to enable the feature. You still control lighting from your device, but remote access gives permission for you to adjust your Hue system from anywhere in the world.

APP & FUNCTIONS:

Scenes within the app

Philips built in more than a dozen ‘scenes’ in the app, which migrate the bulbs to specific color combinations that prompt memories of environments. “Relax” and “concentration” give you what you expect. But others like “ski” (bright whites and blues) emulate the lighting you could encounter in those situations. Hundreds more scenes have been created by Hue users and are available on their website when logged into your account. A very creative app feature is the ability to produce and save scenes based on photos. Check your library to find a favorite moment. Hue will analyze the photo and bring out the colors in it. So if you are in a nightclub having a great time with friends take a photo and emulate that environment when you get home. Scenes were easy to call up and create. And setting an alarm for a scene to turn off or on was just as easy â€" whether on the network or away from home. For example, I found it helpful to have the office lights turn to bright orange about the time I was due to fall asleep on my keyboard. It made me get up and leave. And yes, we have managed to mess fellow CG staffers while away from our network. Believe it or not the toughest thing to do on the app was simply assigning a color to each bulb. Although we eventually figured it out, making all the lights red or yellow or color of our choice proved not quite as intuitive as using or creating scenes.

Philips did think ahead on the technology and made Hue open platform. Anticipate developer details later this year which may lead to options like strobe or rotating colors. Imagine having rotating red and green during your Christmas party!

LIGHT:

The light exhibited from the LED bulbs was worthy of mention. Each gives off 600 lumens and uses about  7.5W. Conversely, the equivalent lumens in an incandescent would require approximately a 50W bulb. So you will save by simply using LED.  The color combinations are as endless as LEDs allow. And when turned off at the source the Hue bulbs return to white light which proved better than our bulb predecessors. Up to 50 Hue bulbs can be controlled per hub.

CONCLUSION:

Philips is not the first to get in the wireless-ly controlled bulb game. But with their expertise and resources they will certainly make the biggest splash. Do we need a $200 set of bulbs that change color? Perhaps not, but with the mounds of research showing how our moods and work is impacted based on our surroundings, there does exist plenty of reason. Plus, it is fun! If you enjoy mood lighting, travel (and want to deter mischief) or simply like to control your life through your phone/tablet pick up a Hue system via Philips, Apple, Amazon or other retailers.

DIY Endangered Species Gadgets

by Alison - on January 21st, 2013

Being eco-friendly with our technology can only do good for the planet and it makes you feel good. As gadget people we should take some responsibility to dispose of things properly. You figure if every gadget lover on the planet had even one less item to go into the ‘dead electronic stuff’ dump every year that we could start chipping away at the massive amounts of electronic waste in the world.

A very creative Italian designer decided to see if we can’t take more action to eliminate electronic waste, still get the features we need and remind us of our fragile world at the same time. The Eco DIY Collection from Eduardo Alessi presents 5 different gadget must haves in a unique and Earth-friendly format. Simply put, you receive your products as flat, 2D cardboard. Lexani Motorcars’ customized Toyota Sequoia is the bomb

by Edwin - on January 21st, 2013

There are rides, and then there are rides. I would certainly lump this highly customized Toyota Sequoia under the latter, thanks to the effort of the folks over at Lexani Motorcars. In a nutshell, they have managed to customize a Toyota Sequoia by padding it with its fair share of armor just in case you happen to be in a tight spot, but just in case that is not enough for a rogue country’s dictator, the Toyota Sequoia has also been kitted out with bling, where you will find exclusive creature comforts such as wine coolers and huge leather seats that would certainly make any rock star feel at home inside. This luxurious SUV does seem to target folks who want the best of both worlds â€" security as well as entertainment and being treated like a king.

One thing’s for sure, this is an armored car that certainly goes against the grain, as it is very different from the conventional notion of a huge limousine, just like the one the U.S. President rides around in. Good to know that this is one low key armored vehicle that will not drag any attention to you, not at least until you stop and a bevy of gorgeous ladies step out from it with you, and photographers get a glimpse on the amount of fun one can have inside.

Sporting composite armor that delivers a very high degree of protection without weighing it down a whole lot, the standard 2013 Toyota Sequoia has managed to be modified to where it is thanks to the assistance from professional car armorers. The clever implementation of Kevlar, ceramic composites, ballistic steel and laminated armor glass will allow it to withstand penetration by 7.62 x 51 mm M80 NATO Ball ammunition, while the floor clears the height for blast protection to meet STANAG 4569 Level 1 certification, letting it stand blasts and shrapnel that are equivalent to two hand grenades wired together and detonated simultaneously. Both fuel tank and battery are also armor plated.

Desktop Jellyfish Tank

by Edwin - on January 18th, 2013

Thinkgeek might be a wee bit late to the game as the $381.99 Desktop Jellyfish Tank actually picked up the gong for being the “2011 Best Product” at Global Pet Expo a couple of years back, but as momma used to say, “better late than never”, right? Well, the Desktop Jellyfish Tank does as it says â€" it gives you the opportunity to own a very unique desktop pet that will remain silent and quiet, but is deadly to the touch. At least to us humans, although “Nemo” as depicted in the image above does seem to exhibit a very nonchalant attitude.

The Desktop Jellyfish Tank will arrive with every single thing you need to get started on a jellyfish family, right out of the box so that you lack nothing. It includes the tank (obviously), an air pump and valves, a hydrometer, some substrate, a feeding pipette, and heck, why not jazz things up by a spot with a color-changing LED complete with a remote control so that your pet jellyfish will look cooler than it actually is. You would need to provide your own jellyfish though, and while this 6-gallon tank has been optimized to hold jellyfish, it will still be able to house other kinds of fish and invertebrates.

Snappgrip achieves success in Kickstarter campaign

by Edwin - on January 20th, 2013

Back in the olden days, if you had a good idea brewing in your head, you needed to gather enough folks to buy into your idea so that they can throw some money your way (as an investor, of course, not for you to take that dough and swindle it on wine, women and song). Well, the modern day method of raising funds have taken an online persona, and here we are with yet another fruit of the Kickstarter tree â€" the Snappgrip from cooltopia. Just what the heck is the Snappgrip? Well, Snappgrip has been described to be a snap-on camera controller which will transform your smartphone into point-and-shoot cameras. Wait a minute here, aren’t the latest smartphones well equipped enough to function as a decent entry level point-and-shoot camera? Perhaps there is more than meets the eye to the Snappgrip.

We know that Snappgrip will enter production from late February 2013 onwards, and it allows smartphone users to snap photos using a single hand, not to mention to be able to snap spontaneous pictures without batting an eyelid. All you need to do is attach the controller to the back of a smartphone and you are good to go. It works in the same manner as that of a digital camera, where before long you will be able to enjoy different functions such as zoom mode, shooting mode and focus.

Since the Snappgrip is completely portable, compact and removable, you can more or less say that this is one smartphone accessory that should not escape the attention of your wallet. Expect the Snappgrip to be released next month for $99 a pop, although if you are interested in saving a little bit money on the side so that your lunch can be a wee bit more luxurious, you are able to place a pre-order for the Snappgrip now for approximately $79.

Classic Corby Trouser Press

by Edwin - on January 19th, 2013

It is safe to assume that every woman wants her husband to look dapper, and wearing a singlet, shuffling around the home in a pair of flip flops with that unkept beard is a huge turn-off for visitors, even though the man might feel that he is at his most comfortable. Going to work, on the other hand, is a different matter altogether, and having an immaculately ironed shirt and a pressed pair of trousers are just what the fashion doctor ordered, which is why we decided it was too good to pass on the $299.95 Classic Corby Trouser Press.

Why is the word “classic” part of the name? Well, for starters, this is the trouser press that was made in England by John Corby, Ltd., who incidentally is also the inventor of the original pants presser and supplier of fine hotels. Sporting a 250-watt heating pad that is able to remove wrinkles and sharpens creases in both pant legs simultaneously in a jiffy, the Classic Corby Trouser Press will not work in a similar manner as that of repeated ironing action, hence you will not find it imparting a surface sheen on garments, while the built-in thermostatic control prevents scorched fabrics. There is a stretcher bar system that pulls trousers taut so that you don’t have to straighten fabric before pressing, while it also removes those stubborn back-of-the knee wrinkles which traditional irons tend to leave behind.

It comes with a 15-, 30-, or 45-minute timer settings for light to heavy fabrics, while the LED display will show just how much time has elapsed.

Samsung brings Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 tablets

by Edwin - on January 19th, 2013

When it comes to modern day devices, there is nothing quite like making sure it runs on the latest software update so that it will “purr” along nicely, and this is what Samsung intends to do with their latest release of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to two of their tablets which was introduced not too long ago â€" the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 as well as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. The thing is, only Wi-Fi versions of these models will be able to enjoy the Jelly Bean update, so owners of the cellular versions will have to play the patience card and wait.

As some of us might already know, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will bring with it a suite of performance improvements, in addition to the introduction of Premium Suite that had made the Galaxy Note 2 all the more productive. Premium Suite will boast a collection of new features which will further upgrade multi-tasking and productivity, all the time enhancing personalization and offering new levels of creativity. Users are then able to enjoy improved S Pen support in addition to the ability to easily open and resize multiple apps, letting one view them from across the screen, layered on top of each other.

There are also other features which have been introduced so that the capabilities of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1 will be boosted, including the Multi Window feature which enables users to experience a dual view, running two apps side-by-side on the screen. Cascade View, on the other hand, lets users freely resize, move and pin selected applications in multiple views, making sure they can run simultaneously or while operating the home-screen. This will definitely resonate with folks who are so used to working on a PC, and watch the productivity bar spike!

Unfortunately, there is still no word on when the cellular models of the Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 will be updated. Hopefully it is sooner rather than later.

Let Your Phone Feel & Act Like a Camera

by Alison - on January 17th, 2013

How many of you non-photographers out there even bother with a camera anymore? Smartphone photography is taking the world by storm. With faster speeds, more megapixels, better lenses and bigger capacity on our phones there remain few reasons to carry a camera. Yet becoming a professional photographer may not be totally possible with these handheld devices. Let’s face it, holding onto the delicate sides of your phone while trying to take quality photos does pose a challenge sometimes.

A funded Kickstarter project in the UK is launching a solution to help you enjoy smartphone photography while letting you literally ‘feel’ like you are using a camera. snappgrip, compatible with iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and Galaxy SIII, includes a case and camera controls.  Pop the case on your phone then slide in the snappgrip controller when the moment arises. Synced via Bluetooth, the controller enables you many of the conveniences of a camera. Press the shutter button to take a picture or press halfway to focus. Shoot in portrait, landscape or video mode zoom in and out and use flash. On the bottom you have micro-USB port for charging the controller and standard tripod too.  iOS and Android companion photo apps are available. Black/silver and silver/white/brown color options are available and snappgrip is anticipated to begin shipping in February. Pick one up for £29 on Kickstarter now or £69 once launched. And get that camera feel back into your photography.

Cars That Keep Up on Technology

by Alison - on January 18th, 2013

Automaker presence at CES was huge this year. All the big players showed off the latest in technology having to do with cars. Wireless charging, cloud based services and even self-driving cars became highlights and are continuing to draw attention at the North American Auto Show in Detroit this week. Yet the dilemma with cars is how to keep the technology fresh. If you have a 10 year old car odds are high that much of the technology in it is out of date (like the cassette player in the 2002 I just sold!).

Ford and General Motors recently announced programs that may enable in-car technology to keep up with other technologies in our lives. Both auto behemoths kicked off programs that will open their technology designs to developers. Sort of a semi-open platform approach. Thought is that developers can help create applications to help use the assets the car has while keeping up with needs of the owner. Imagine being able to program radio button 1 to accept voice commands about which playlist to use from your synced smartphone. Or perhaps you can’t travel long without a pit stop. Maybe you should program the car to pull up the nearest restrooms when you utter the term ‘bathroom.’ It would all be possible, and totally dependent on what technologies â€" perhaps developed for phones or computers â€" may be popular. The key is the ability to change the use of the cars buttons and features as the technology changes. Gone would be the days of outdated features. You car could meet your technology needs and keep your eyes on the road. We shall see how Ford and GM decide to implement the program, but here’s to hoping that someday our cars meet our technology needs as much as our phones do now.

A ChargeCard…Literally

by Alison - on January 17th, 2013

Anyone who goes travels â€" whether across the globe or across town â€" knows the importance of keeping chargers on the ready. You never know when you may have a few seconds to charge up. Keeping the cables organized is a different story though. Personally, my travel bag always resembles a hornets nest. Between cables and headphones. Bleeeech! It’s a mess. And gosh forbid you are totally on the go and don’t have a place to put a cable. Some smart folks in California took a look at this very dilemma and came up with a perfect solution that received some attention at CES last week.

Meet ChargeCard, a compact USB charger that fits virtually anywhere in your life. These card sized units, available for iPhone 4 or 5 and in micro USB, fit in places as small as your wallet. When you need to charge find a USB port pull back the rubber tongue and plug in. Then plug the adapter into your phone or device. The USB plug snaps back into place when done charging. It functions just like any other USB cable so yes, you can sync too. As simple as the concept may seem, ChargeCard is apparently something that we all need as the project received plenty of CES press and tripled their Kickstarter goal last summer. Sometimes some of the simplest gadgets are the most helpful though! Pick up your own ChargeCard in black or white for $25. Tweet about ChargeCard and get a discount too. And leave the manic charging and crazy cable blues behind.

Avoid Obesity. Pump Your Stomach?

by Alison - on January 16th, 2013

January, sweet January. That time when we all feel the holidays around our waistline, gym membership sales skyrocket and many of us set our list of ways we will try to improve our health. Giving up the pasta, breads and sugar can be a challenge. What if you could pump it out? Gorge yourself and take it out of your system. Sounds crazy, but Aspire Bariatrics developed AspireAssist which does exactly that. Currently available in parts of Europe â€" this weight loss tool literally allows the user to pump food out of your stomach.

Sure, AspireAssist may not be for the average Joe looking to drop a couple lbs. But face it. The amount of gastric bypass surgery in the US is on the rise. Obesity exists as one of the biggest challenges in fast moving, quick preparation, fast food world. And the conditions that obesity contributes to (diabetes, heart conditions, etc) are enough to make docs and patients realize that immediate weight loss is a critical stop on the road to healing. AspireAssist is a minimally invasive, outpatient process that threads the pump device and, ummm…exit point(?) into your stomach. Wait 20 minutes after you eat and about 30% of the stomachs contents can be pumped out. By not digesting the calories the body can’t absorb them and add to weight gain.

Ok, pumping your stomach may be extreme â€" but where the device is finding success stories is overweight patients who continually have problems maintaining weight loss. And for some whose health become so impacted by weight gain I would think that AspireAssist may provide a legitimate solution.

Make Yourself a Green Thumb

by Alison - on January 16th, 2013

True confession time. I am a killer. I kill plants. I try to grow them indoors and outdoors with the same results. Poor little green friends. It may be that they dry out (oops! Forgot the water!). They have come too close to the radiator too. And outdoor stuff seems to suffer a variety of deaths: lack of sun, weeds, neighborhood cat deposits. I really DO enjoy having plants around. But how to keep them alive?

Time to incorporate the smartphone in keeping greenery alive. Parrot â€" more famous for electronics like their R/C AR Drone â€" plans on launching Flower Power in 2013. They call it “the most advanced plant sensor” and after researching it I believe them! These two pronged gadgets easily slide into any pot or planter or bed to measure critical plant stats. Via Bluetooth they transmit data to your smartphone’s Flower Power app. Parrot consulted botanists to ensure they measured the right stuff so you will get information on soil moisture, humidity, sun exposure, temperature and fertilizer.  And of course the app can alert you when any of the plant’s “vitals” are out of whack. So for people like me…growing plants becomes easy! You can track up to 6,000 plants, errr sensors with the app. One AAA battery is required per sensor but you will get months of life from it. Parrot has not announced a launch date or time. But in all of the press they received at CES they insisted it will be out this year. Popular Mechanics and Stuff magazine both liked Flower Power so much they gave it a CES award. If they experts like it you, like me, probably will too.

Pore Cleaning Microdermabrasion System

by Edwin - on January 15th, 2013

Everyone wants to have pure and clean skin, no doubt about that. If you ever doubt that, then check out the numbers that the cosmetics industry churns out each year. It runs into the billions for sure, as vanity appeals to every single one of us. Well, the quest to find the Fountain of Youth remains an elusive one, so we are left to getting enough exercise, keeping to a healthy diet, and also using other facial cleansing products such as creams and if you want to go a bit further, how about exploring life with the $299.95 Pore Cleaning Microdermabrasion System?

The Pore Cleaning Microdermabrasion System is a diamond-tip microdermabrasion system which relies on a gentle yet powerful suction that will help deeply cleanse pores, resulting in smooth and rejuvenated skin. It is different from other microdermabrasion kits out there that rely on crystals or peels, as this system has no messy residue and has been touted to be safe for use all over the face. Those who have sensitive under-eye regions, need not fret. The natural diamond-tipped wand will exfoliate the epidermis, and at the same time, vacuum up built-up dirt, makeup, and other impurities. It requires just a trio of 10-minute treatments each week, and you ought to be able to see results soon.

Phone Reminders on Your Wrist

by Alison - on January 15th, 2013

Anyone paying attention to advancements in the world of using your watch as a helpful, connected device certainly look forward to 2013. Rumors of an Apple watch keep circulating. The long awaited launch of the Pebble was announced at CES. Health and fitness watch features flourished. And something called the Cookoo watch made some headlines. Some of you may look forward to checking texts and emails on a watch. Some can’t go to the gym without a ‘smart watch’. But some of us don’t need THAT much on our wrist. Rather than serving as another device on which to read or interact, I would prefer something that is sort of an extension of my phone features.

Cookoo proves to be a reminder device rather than a total communication device. Cookoo syncs via low energy Bluetooth 4.0 with newer iOS devices: iPhone 4S or 5, iPad Mini, iPad g3 or g4 and iPod touch g5. After loading the Cookoo app onto your gadget your watch will receive notifications from the phone. Your watch will remind you of incoming or missed calls, messages, calendar reminders and clock alarms. If out of range from your device Cookoo will remind you. If you can’t find your phone let your watch do it. When you are away from your phone you miss a beat. You can also use Cookoo to check in on Facebook or read messages, or even to remote trigger your device’s camera. And Cookoo does all this for $129.99. Choose from one of five band colors. And unlike some of the more active smart watches â€" you will get about a year out of the Cookoo. And if the watch is not what you need, Cookoo offers a $40 keyfob to provide some of the same alerts. Visit their website to learn more or get your reminders on your wrist.

A Lens for 2-D or 3-D

by Alison - on January 14th, 2013

The world of 3-D continues to grow. More 3-D movies come out every week, more 3-D TVs are sold. Whether you enjoy it or not 3-D is selling. Manufacturers are also enabling consumers to capture their own 3-D images too. What is better than remembering your Aunt Bessie at the family reunion than seeing her in 3-D? Ok, maybe seeing kids or pets is more fun. Anyway, the products are being produced.

Samsung previewed a new product at CES last week that should help to simplify the capturing of personal 3-D stills or video. Their first-of-its-kind 45mm 2-D/3-D single lens offers versatility for the latest generation of the popular NX camera system â€" the NX300. The lens offers the same form factor as a standard lens but offers the ability to capture 3-D video and stills. Simply flip a switch on the lens to get into 3-D mode. The unit manages to capture the image and then flip to the other side to record the subject from a different angle. It is not a zoom lens, so don’t be getting too fancy. The lens goes on sale this spring for $500 with the compatible NX300 camera coming at the same time for $750. What an appropriate way to add another dimension (literally!) to your photos and video.

Not Your Standard Keyboard

by Alison - on January 14th, 2013

How great would it be to mouse or type into thin air and see everything in front of you? Sort of like Minority Report. Rather than having a specific device to control actions or input (i.e. mouse or keyboard) it would rock to just have it all there â€" all the functions you need at your fingertips. That certainly may be realistic down the road. But peripherals will be necessary for the immediate future.

One creative designer decided that although a peripheral may be needed â€" why not make it suit more possible needs out there, while also looking like something from the future. The Luminae devices from TransluSense could potentially change how we navigate our computers. The glass Keyboard+ and Touchpad+ enable you to customize the controls you want via different overlays. Create a qwerty keyboard with 10-key pad. Or maybe you need 10-key and mouse pad. Maybe you want to use the device to both type and mouse (“Type and Swipe”). Or maybe your work requires a non-standard keyboard. You can literally have different overlays for different needs. Also choose your glowing LED color too. Built inside the Luminae units are cameras which judge when your hands break the light pattern of both visible and infrared LEDs. Based on the overlay you have on the keyboard will react. Sounds odd not to have a tactile keyboard. But it sure would be functional â€" and cool looking. At $500 this may not be the keyboard for everyone, but for those that are you may feel one step closer to the future.

iDroid Bluetooth Gaming Controller

by Edwin - on January 12th, 2013

The smartphone has ended up to be a pretty decent mobile gaming device in recent times, and it does not seem to show any sign of slowing down at all. In fact, it looks as though it is growing from strength to strength, and dedicated handheld consoles such as the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS need to look behind their shoulders! Well, for those who love gaming in short bursts on their smartphones but have not really gotten used to full touchscreen controls even until now, here is a solution for you â€" one that needs no app at all. We’re talking about the $39.99 iDroid Bluetooth Gaming Controller, of course.

The iDroid Bluetooth Gaming Controller is a wireless Bluetooth controller for both Android and iOS powered devices, where all you need to do is just pair and play. This is definitely a controller that will resonate with long time console gamers, where it comes complete with analog thumbsticks, a digital gamepad, half a dozen digital buttons and a couple of analog L and R triggers. Princip Interactive LED Futuro Cube

by Edwin - on January 12th, 2013

Do you love puzzle games? If you have answered in the affirmative and want to keep up with the times, then you might want to gravitate towards the $99.99 Princip Interactive LED Futuro Cube. Sounds and looks as though it is something that hails from Hellraiser, no? Actually, the Princip Interactive LED Futuro Cube is, as its name suggests, a cube-based gaming platform that boggles the mind, or at least it does its best in doing so. We are looking at plenty of tech being packed into a diminutive package, which is no surprise in this day and age. In fact, it is said that all the puzzle games you would want to have are within, and good news for developers â€" a developer’s kit is arriving early this year.

Just to get a clearer picture on what the Princip Interactive LED Futuro Cube offers, it boasts of a clever combination of multi-axis accelerometers, haptic vibration feedback, wireless connectivity, 4-channel audio and 56 multi-color LEDs, all rolled into a handheld cube so that it will be able to deliver a unique gaming experience that is unlike any other on the market. HAL 9000 Life-Size Replica

by Edwin - on January 11th, 2013

Fans in the realm of science fiction, we play harbingers of good news today â€" delivering word that you can now bring the terror of early computing right to the comforts of your own home. Who knows, one of the $499.99 HAL 9000 Life-Size Replica could actually malfunction and be the malevolent ghost in the shell that scared the heck out of many all those years ago when they watched Space Odyssey? Touted to be the most accurate HAL 9000 replica ever created, it was constructed from the 1967 blueprints and image files.

The HAL 9000 Life-Size Replica might not usher the end of humanity, but what it does would no less send chills down the spines of those in the know. It can speak 15 different phrases, and respond to voice and most IR remotes, now how about that? The red LED eye will definitely be part of its physical make up, and it comes with a 2-minute auto-shutoff feature to save battery life.

NUU Splash, the waterproof Bluetooth speaker

by Edwin - on January 11th, 2013

I do wonder sometimes when a particular device such as a speaker is waterproof, how would it affect the way that you use other devices connected to it? Case in point, CES 2013 saw the announcement of the NUU Splash Bluetooth speaker that is clearly waterproof, helping you enjoy your favorite tunes the next time there is a poolside or beach party, but have you ever gave thought to the device streaming music to it? Is your smartphone or portable media player waterproof? Sure, this would mean additional expenditure on your part to purchase a waterproof case, but surely there are no waterproof notebooks out there â€" at least, not yet.

I guess this means I will just concentrate on sharing with you what the NUU Splash portable waterproof wireless speaker offers, and you will have to make the decision as to whether to bring one home or not when available. It has an integrated microphone and will work with all Bluetooth devices, manufactured using aircraft-grade aluminum for lightweight toughness and is IP55 certified against dust and low pressure water jets. Accessing volume and track selection controls are a snap, and it even functions as a speakerphone if you desire it to. The NUU Splash has been rated to last for up to 10 hours of continuous playback, or 240 hours on standby. You can choose from green, blue, gray, red and black colors at $99 a pop.

iPotty…the Name Says It All

by Alison - on January 10th, 2013

Parents everywhere are turning to their iPad to assist in educating and entertaining children. Thousands of quality learning apps exist to help everything from speaking to writing. Games help little ones kill time â€" and improve skills in some cases. And of course the iPad mobility with movies and TV shows becomes a life saver in some situations…a babysitter as some would say. But one parental duty floating under the radar has plenty of apps (22 on the US app store) to assist. Is it reading? Nope. Math? Nope. POTTY TRAINING! Yes, apps give parents help in the quest to get “pee-pee in the potty.” And now a creative piece of ‘hardware’ looks to help complete the learning process.

Meet the iPotty, $40 children’s potty with built in iPad stand. This colorful contraption provides the perfect size potty for those being trained. Take off the top, insert the front ‘shield’ if needed, pop in your iPad â€" which remains out of the range of fire and has a plastic cover to ensure dryness.  Hopefully the kid will stay on the iPotty long enough to get engaged in the app you choose and take care of business. Easily remove the stand if you choose to train without the pad. The iPotty, on display at CES, comes to us from CTA Digital, makers of a variety of gaming and multimedia accessories for tablets, phones and the like. And they are familiar with what kids use as they offer plenty of gadgets to help children enjoy technology. So why not! Let the iPad help with one other task in the quest to raise children.

Choose Your Experience as You Use Your Card

by Alison - on January 10th, 2013

Just about every credit card holder collects some sort of rewards. Maybe it is cash back, maybe it is points or maybe your spending gives money back to a charity. Cards make life easy â€" so we won’t be going away from them anytime soon. And card companies will do just about anything to attract more business. Their offers continue to change to entice consumers into using their card.

Dynamics develops advanced payment platforms â€" not your typical CES topic. But this payment platform is oh so electronic. ePlateâ„¢ proves to take credit card rewards to another level. The technology presents two buttons on a credit card. After making a purchase the cardholder can press one of the two buttons. Each of the buttons can be assigned to a different ‘experience’ which may include points in a game to be used towards items, charity donations or whatever an organization may want to offer. Maybe a user wants to donate to a charity every time they eat out. No problem. But maybe there are also business expenses on the card. Select a different experience for those purchases. The card user assigns an experience to each button via an online management tool. And of course they can be swapped out.  Cards are issued exclusively through UMB Bank. Apply online today. Or stay tuned to see if your favorite businesses offer an ePlate version of their card. Experiences already exist too. Groups like Upper Deck (collect digital card set and receive an actual collectors set by mail) and Toys for Tot (donate toys as you make purchases) are on board already. And more are bound to come.  A toolkit exists for ePlate so programmers can develop more experiences to lure card holders. If you are looking for a more versatile way to use your purchasing power take a look at the Dynamics ePlate from UMB Bank. Give yourself options with how to use your rewards.

Plenty of Portable Power

by Alison - on January 9th, 2013

Unfortunately, we live in a world where natural disasters are a reality. Blizzards, tornados, earthquakes, hurricanes, torrential rains, tsunamis, floods. The list is intimidating. Preparedness remains about our only defense in many situations. Those living in the line of such disasters have become accustomed to preparing themselves with things like food, water and sandbags. Yet our technology keeps us connected to the world. Why sacrifice contact with the outside world when life gets turned upside down by mother nature?

GoalZero, innovators of portable power systems, showed off their upcoming Yeti 150 at CES yesterday. This easily portable gadget will give you 150 watt-hours of power â€" enough to run your laptop all week. Run or charge devices via outlet, DC power or USB. Or to be ultra-prepared, invest in the attachable 15-watt solar panel to fill up on power when other sources don’t exist. Wall charging takes about 4 hours and solar will take a good part of a sunny day. Being portable the Yeti 150 becomes not only a natural disaster savior, but perfect for camping, picnics or wherever power can’t reach. The Yeti 150 launches later this year at about $400 with the solar panels at $200. When nature strikes be prepared to stay connected to the outside world with a leader in portable and solar power.

A True “Cool” Gadget

by Alison - on January 9th, 2013

A majority of the devices we write about fit into a breadbox. Which is sort of the optimum size for what we define as a gadget. Yet gadgetry should not be limited in size â€" so say all the car manufacturers at CES and electronics giants like Samsung. Gadgetry should improve the conveniences we already enjoy in life. Like our fridge!

Welcome to what Samsung calls the “home entertainer’s ultimate refrigerator” â€" the T9000. Though it sounds like a Cyberdyne Systems creation, this beast will not hurt a fly. This four-door refrigerator with LCD screen does way more than just chilling and freezing. Why four compartments? To accommodate everything in 25.5 cu ft. Put kid’s stuff in a lower space. Maybe you have food for your party â€" that can go in its own place. Or maybe you need one dedicated beverage space. You get the picture. Compartments on the left freeze. Compartments on the right chill â€" unless you need more than a chill. The lower right compartment converts to additional freezer space.  Commercial grade humidity levels are maintained in the designated fresh food zones via two compressors and three evaporators. Holy iBattz BattStation Tough Pro, Batman!

by Edwin - on January 8th, 2013

Sure, you love spending the day at conventions and tradeshows like CES, but there are moments when you realize that it totally slipped your mind the day earlier to power up your smartphone, leaving you with less than 25% to go through the day. Which is nigh impossible considering what a power user you are. Good thing there are peripherals out there to the rescue, such as the iBattz BattStation Tough Pro 12,000 mAH. Yes sir, this bad boy will come in 7200mAh, 8400mAh and 12000mAh configurations, retailing for $29.90, $39.90 and $49.90, respectively.

Still, the tale of the tape needs to be told, and the iBattz BattStation Tough Pro 12000 comes with, no prizes for guessing this one, 12000 mAH of portable power. With this, you can juice up a couple of exhausted USB devices simultaneously, and it holds enough charge to power an iPhone up to 8 times, or for tablet users, the new iPad with Retina display once. Fret not about its durability, the BattStation Tough Pro gets the job done just about anywhere, thanks to its ruggedized, silicone shell that is drop and water resistant.

Boogie Board Jot 4.5 LCD eWriter

by Edwin - on January 8th, 2013

For those of us who are office drones and cubicle slaves, surely you are familiar with the concept of a notepad? No, I am not referring to the simple text editor stashed away under a nest of menus in older versions of Windows, but rather, the traditional paper kind. Yes sir, those useful pieces of paper that lets you jot down important information on the spot. Well, perhaps it is time to bring things up to speed in the 21st century with the Boogie Board Jot 4.5 LCD eWriter that has just been announced at CES 2013.

It is rather unfortunate that the Boogie Board Jot 4.5 LCD eWriter will arrive in the market only in this coming holiday season, which is at the end of the year in case you are stuck in a time warp. The Boogie Board Jot 4.5 LCD eWriter is quite a looker, considering how it sports a compact and durable design that makes it ideal for writing quick memos and reminders on-the-go. Small and lightweight, it should not be an issue to find a pocket or purse to fit it in a jiffy. It comes with an attachable tapered stylus and stackable design for a truly unique user experience, while a plastic, removable cover helps protect the writing surface from unwanted marks and scratches.

Turn Photos Into Funnies

by Alison - on January 7th, 2013

Now that the holidays are done you are probably looking back at your photos and reminiscing. Maybe it was your Uncle making a fool of himself on Christmas Day. Or perhaps the cat attacking the tree is something you want to commemorate. Whether from the last weeks or previous times all photos have a story behind them, right? Good times deserve proper dialog and humor.

The $19.99 Comic Strip Photo Frame gives you a chance to turn those memorable pics into a fun comic. With space to display 6 photos you can choose from the same event or a variety of your favorite snapshots. Included with the frame is a sheet of adhesive dialog bubbles and a marker. Once you put your photos in jot your own expressions on the bubbles and apply. “BAM” “”Ka-pow” or whatever comes to mind. You can create a comic complete with your own photos. Stickers are reusable too, so switch out your story and adjust the dialog as frequently as you want. So now your Uncle’s antics can become a funny memory and the cat suddenly exclaims “kowabunga” when attacking the tree. Whether used on your recent holiday gaffes or on a variety of your favorite pictures, make sure that you turn them into a funny memory.
