Bluetooth Hybrid Vacuum Tube Amplifier

by Edwin - on December 30th, 2012

A vacuum tube amplifier is said to deliver more warmth in the audio playback by those who hold music close and dear to their heart, and here we are with the $399.95 Bluetooth Hybrid Vacuum Tube Amplifier which merges the old with the new. Basically, this hybrid vacuum tube amplifier will be able to pair up with any Bluetooth music device in order to deliver superior audio performance. Vacuum tube amplifiers, apart from generating warmer tones, are also said to offer more dynamic tones compared to transistor-based models as they limit distortion when overloaded, resulting in better signal-to-noise ratio.

A trio of tubes in this amplifier are able to generate 28 watts per channel of distortion-free signal to a pair of hooked up speakers. Of course, you will need to supply the speakers yourself, and it is sure able to deliver quite a fair bit of punch and clarity to high bit-rate MP3s, Apple Lossless, or CD-quality audio that is played wirelessly from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Not only that, the tubes will also deliver robust bass response by ameliorating the natural acoustic qualities of second and third harmonics for richer sound coloration. There is a switch located on the amplifier’s front that allows you to choose between a Bluetooth audio source or two pairs of RCA inputs.

Hyundai Connectivity Concept turns smartphones into car keys

by Edwin - on December 30th, 2012

Now here is a novel idea â€" since “there is an app for everything”, why not expand that horizon with the Hyundai Connectivity Concept? Imagine your smartphone doubling up as your vehicle’s key, now what would make one less thing to remember to bring with you wherever you go, don’t you think so? After all, vehicle manufacturers have been moving in a direction where content from your smartphone is being sent to your vehicle, and with a smartphone, you are able to access navigation, music, text messaging and other phone functions from the driver and/or passenger seat. With the Hyundai Connectivity Concept, the South Korean vehicle manufacturer intends to bring things up by another level, allowing you to transfer all of the phone’s content to the car’s touchscreen display wirelessly and throwing in other wireless functions to boot.

Hyundai has named it the Connectivity Concept, being a “technology study” and has a dream of it reaching production within the next three years. In fact, Hyundai has already equipped the conceptual system on a New Generation i30 as part of its demonstration purposes. The Connectivity Concept hardware will kick off before you even enter the car. Instead of a hard or electronic key, the Hyundai Connectivity Concept will rely on near-field communications (NFC) to pop the locks of the vehicle open, all you need to do is place the smartphone over an NFC tag on the door, and be prepared to enter.

When you have planted your rear end on the comfortable seat, the smartphone can then slide into a wireless dock that is located in the center console, where the entire slew of its content, ranging from music to phone contacts, and profile settings among others are then streamed to the car’s 7-inch touchscreen. The car’s infotainment system will resemble the look and function of the phone’s touchscreen, and a wireless charger is also thrown into the mix. This technology is expected to be commercialized in 2015.

Dally the Singalongz Duck

by Edwin - on December 29th, 2012

Do you own a rubber ducky that you use during your bath times? That is certainly something cute, as it harkens back to those pleasant and memorable childhood moments, no? Well, now that you are all grown up and have the kind of disposable income to purchase some of the stuff that you want to without having to wonder whether there is enough left over for dinner for the family or not, perhaps it is time you consider the £26.49 Dally the Singalongz Duck.

This is part of an award-winning interactive soft toy range, where Singalongz will be able to talk, sing and play with you using a special microphone. Whenever you sing or talk into the microphone, the Singalongz will then mimic what it hears, although it will do so humorously in its own inimitable voice. All you need to do is press the star on its hand to awaken it, and be entertained. There are different animals to choose from, such as Cobey the bear, Me-me the cat, and Ruftey the dog.

Roboy could be a robot for the future

by Edwin - on December 29th, 2012

Do you think that our future will have robots that help mankind, such as those found in the science fiction movie I, Robot? How about droids that move around in the now Disney-owned Star Wars, those would definitely come in handy in solving the communications problem between different language groups, wouldn’t it? Sad to say, current technology is still far from achieving such high standards in robotics, but perhaps something like the Roboy is a good start.

Folks over at the University of Zurich’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (AI Lab) is currently working on building a robot toddler that they have dubbed “Roboy.” The implementation of “soft robotics” technology which will mimic the human body has resulted in this 1.2 meter (3 ft, 11 in) tall humanoid robot to be a solution down the road that will hopefully make people feel more comfortable in the presence of robots when it comes to day-to-day situations.

Granted, the Roboy is far from being the cutest thing in the market at the moment, as it resembles far more like a cyborg skeleton compared to a charming child whom you would like to cuddle, but bear in mind that this is because this is still a work in progress. The laboratory’s final goal would be to build an entire Roboy from scratch in a matter of nine months, and I find the parallel of the time required compared to carrying a baby to term cute.

Work on Roboy began last June, where 15 project partners and more than 40 engineers and scientists came together, and they intend to fund the development of Roboy by creative means, such as auctioning space on the robot for logos, while hiring it out for business functions when completed.

Roboy remains more of a research project than an engineering enterprise at this point in time, and the team has set their eyes on developing new technologies while engaging scalable production using CAD and 3D printing so that it takes a matter of days to fully roll out a robot.

Blimp iPhone Fan

by Edwin - on December 28th, 2012

For folks living in countries where there are four seasons, isn’t it great to know that the heat turns up only when summer arrives? As for others who live in tropical climates, or even worse, in the desert areas, then you have only two seasons â€" hot, and hotter. Which is why an iPhone accessory such as the $12.99 Blimp iPhone Fan is ideal for everyone, as you are bound to run into moments when the mercury shoots up and it gets unbearably hot, and that miserly boss of yours does not want to turn up the air conditioner’s speed while lowering the temperature, citing operational costs affecting the organization’s bottomline.

Fret not, the Blimp iPhone Fan is here to the rescue, where it will plug into the data port of your iPhone, iPad or iPod in order to deliver a nice gust of air that blows your way. Being tiny and compact, you are able to tote it with you just about anywhere you go, even when you are not going to use it. Turning on and off the Blimp iPhone Fan is a snap, all it requires is a single push of the button, and the fan operates on its internal battery, so you need not replace the battery when it is dead, as it draws juice to recharge from your iDevice. You should be able to coax half a dozen hours of use from the Blimp iPhone Fan on a full charge.

Orbiting Rings Watch

by Edwin - on December 28th, 2012

I am a firm believer that every person should have at the very least one timepiece that they can be proud of to wear around their wrist. Of course, if you were to dive into the high end world of Rolex, Piaget and Patek, that would burn more than just a huge hole in your pocket, you could in fact be wearing a car on your wrist, with some cash to spare to boot. With the $199.95 Orbiting Rings Watch, this is one timepiece that allows you to make a serious fashion statement without ending up in serious debt.

It will also add to your intellectual look, considering how time is shown via a couple of orbiting rings. There are no hour, minute, or second hands, and neither is there a numerical dial for you to fall back on, but thankfully, learning how to tell the time with this puppy is not too difficult, and with a little bit of practice, it will end up as second nature to you. A pair of concentric rings will create an ever-changing pattern of contrasting gradient color as time progresses, and the entire timepiece features a mineral crystal face and encircled by a bezel with marks for each hour. The outer ring will display the minutes while the inner ring displays the hours, where the leading edge of each will then advance in a clockwise motion in order to indicate the passage of time. It comes enclosed by a 316L stainless steel case that offers water resistance down to 100′.

LG Hecto Laser TV system

by Edwin - on December 27th, 2012

LG has just announced the unveiling of their 100-inch class (100-inch diagonal) Laser TV that will deliver not only Smart TV, but Digital TV capabilities as well. Touted to be an impressive home cinema system, the 100-inch class LG “HECTO” Laser TV will be made up of a special screen as well as an external Ultra Short Throw (UST) projection unit. This particularly unique system will be demonstrated for the first time at CES 2013 that is happening in just a fortnight’s time at Las Vegas, Nevada, where it will deliver Full HD 1080p resolution as well as an incredible contrast, all thanks to LG’s advanced laser-based illumination system.

Havis Kwon , President and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company, said, “LG’s 100-inch class Laser TV takes projection technology and makes it perfectly suitable for both the boardroom and the living room. In the coming year, LG will continue to introduce innovative TV products to provide an outstanding productivity and entertainment experience for our customers.”

Apart from its picture quality and large screen, LG’s 100-inch class Laser TV is said to deliver an uncanny theater-like experience at home, although you need not go through the hassle and headache of a difficult installation that previous projector-based systems require. Neither do you need to make space for a considerable distance from the screen to end up with a large image like a standard projector system, as LG’s Laser TV lets you place the lens a mere 22 inches (approximately 56 centimeters) from the screen, now how about that? You also have the option to place it near floor or fasten it to the ceiling for added flexibility.

Other hardware specifications of the LG Laser TV include 1080p Full HD resolution and 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, a digital tuner, two 10W built-in speakers that are embedded in the projection unit, three HDMI inputs, an optical audio output, and a RS-232 interface. Expect it to run up to 25,000 hours without the need for any replacement, making it last approximately five times longer than mercury-based lamps. Any takers?

Toshiba Ultrabook gets Harman Kardon speakers

by Edwin - on December 26th, 2012

What’s in a name, really? For some of us, a name would convey the sense of quality, especially so when that particular name has been a trusted one for a long, long time. I guess this is why branding is extremely important, and here we are with two well known companies synergizing to deliver the best (in their opinion, anyways, we just report it) to consumers. I am referring to Harman Kardon speakers that deliver exceptional audio as well as muscular bass to the Toshiba Widescreen Ultrabook, starting with Satellite U845W model in tow.

Basically, if you are in the market for a Windows 8 powered workhorse multimedia laptop that delivers exceptional sound, your ears will definitely tingle (if it works as claimed) as it tunes in to the remarkably thin Toshiba Satellite U845W Ultrabook which is said to pack far more bite than what it looks like at first glance. Sporting a couple of Harman Kardon speakers alongside Odyssey3 drivers, the Satellite U845W is said to offer crisp, robust sound with authoritative bass which is louder compared to other comparably sized laptop or notebook that is in the market at the moment.

Sachin Lawande, executive vice president of HARMAN and co-president of HARMAN Lifestyle and Infotainment, said, “This is the first Ultrabook that doesn’t require the user to attach external speakers to enjoy a movie, MP3 or streaming audio. The Harman Kardon speakers were custom-designed for the Satellite Ultrabook to get the most out of digital music files. The Satellite Ultrabook was built for beautiful sound.”

The Satellite U845W is not the only one from Toshiba to include Harman Kardon speakers, but it will mark a new era, being the first of nine models to do so. It would be interesting to see how the market reacts to such a model (and other models in the pipeline), and whether audio quality is that big of a deal breaker for many. Expect to pick up the Toshiba Satellite U845W with Harman Kardon sound from $929.99 upwards, depending on the configuration you selected.

The ZTONE in-ear earphones will rely on a patent-pending design that is meant to deliver a professional monitor-like fit, and it will come with custom-molded ear gels which will adjust to an individual’s unique ear cavity so that it can deliver an exceptionally secure, comfortable fit. I suppose this would work well across listeners of all ages, and you can choose from a quartet of different sized gels in order to figure out the perfect match so as to fill the ear and lock in your tunes. You could say that the ZTONE in-ear earphones has been specially created for the hardcore music fan, professional and amateur DJs, and audiophiles, harmonizing easily with just about any music or style.

Pronounced as “stone,” the ZTONE in-ear earphones is also clearly built for superior clarity and bass with a pair of 10mm speaker drivers, 20-20,000 Hz frequency, 16 ohms impedance, and 105 ± 5dB. The use of braided cables made from genuine silver to deliver impeccable audio to the studio-tuned monitors also work great in tangle prevention, and with additional silicone fittings, stereo and airplane adapters, and a durable metal carrying case, it makes for a compelling purchase.

You will be able to check out the ZTONE in-ear earphones at CES that is happening in just a fortnight’s time, and it has also picked up the gong as a 2013 CES Innovations Honoree. At $99.99 a pop, this does seem to shape up to be a pretty decent purchase, even as a present for yourself to start the new year on a right note.

Edifier e1100 Predator speaker system

by Edwin - on December 25th, 2012

Any computer user who loves using their desktop machine to wind down after a particularly hard day at work (be it from gaming or watching movies) would definitely know of the value of a speaker system, and with so many different kinds of speaker systems around, just which one would you settle for? Well, you might want to check out the Edifier e1100 Predator speaker system for something that is slightly off the beaten path. For starters, the Edifier e1100 Predator will come with a downward firing 5-inch subwoofer and a couple of desktop satellite speakers, where each of them will have a 2-inch front firing full-range driver and 2-inch passive radiator. Needless to say, the name of this might be Predator, but it seems to be all Alien to us instead, judging by the xenomorph-inspired chassis.

Thanks to the Edifier e1100 Predator’s angled satellites, they are said to enhance sound projection, with their passive radiators throwing in dynamic range. The subwoofer works great in delivering deep, even bass that is adjustable to individual tastes. You can hook up the e1100 Predator to any audio device using the 3.5mm auxiliary input, and it does seem as though the Edifier e1100 Predator is the ideal companion for gaming rigs, in an office, or just functioning as a home entertainment system. You can pick up the Edifier e1100 Predator for $79.99 a pop.

by Edwin - on December 25th, 2012

So you do like to spend your time cycling, as it is not only a healthy way to exercise, being low impact and all, it also works out that lung power and heart of yours. If you want to dress up your bicycle, there are many different kinds of accessories to choose from, but there is always a more fun way of doing things, and the $24.99 Tweeting Bird Bike Light & Horn does seem to be one unorthodox manner to equip your two wheeler with a horn to warn other pedestrians and road users that you actually exist.

Experience the joy of riding your bicycle outdoors, and regardless of whether it is a mountain trail or on a road, the path in front of you will be adequately illuminated thanks to this cute looking faux feathered friend. Surely kids around the neighborhood would be able to identify with you whenever they see you riding your bicycle, considering the rather unique attachment. Sporting 9 bright LEDs that light your way, this cordless, water resistant device features a steady and flashing light function, alongside a loud twitter warning horn. The handlebar mounting system makes it easy for the bird to slide on and off, and it can double up as a mobile flashlight, now how about that? Just make sure you have a trio of fresh AAA batteries as a replacement when the current batch is depleted.

Samsung Galaxy Grand smartphone announced

by Edwin - on December 24th, 2012

It seems that Samsung’s plan on expanding the Galaxy brand of devices is showing no sign of slowing down, not in the least with the latest announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Grand. It is said that the South Korean conglomerate has carefully positioned the Samsung Galaxy Grand to be an ideal smartphone for those who live fast-paced mobile lifestyles as well as demand far more from their smartphone compared to a standard user. Let us dig into just what the Samsung Galaxy Grand can deliver, shall we?

For starters, the Samsung Galaxy Grand will be powered by the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system, which should be good enough and leave you no room for any complaints. If you want to look for a device with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, well, the Samsung Galaxy Grand just isn’t for you. Not only that, the Galaxy Grand will also feature a vivid 5.0’’ display (no Full HD resolution here unlike other high end devices in the market like the HTC Droid DNA and Oppo Find 5) that promises to deliver an expansive viewing experience, letting you view messaging, multimedia and Web content in brilliant color and clarity.

Despite packing quite a generous display, the Galaxy Grand remains modest in terms of its design, being slim, ergonomic and comfortable to hold. Thanks to the Multi Window feature, you are able to enjoy true multitasking ability while running multiple apps all at once without the need to switch screens.

There is a dual-core 1.2GHz processor underneath the hood that keeps everything running just fine, and while it is not the fastest kid on the block, it should still be able to handle some of the more demanding apps and games in the market without missing a beat. The camera is also one point to look out for, boasting zero shutter-lag and ultra-quick camera start-up. Thanks to its backside illumination sensor, it will pave the way for clear shots even in dark conditions, in addition to offering Full HD video recording capability.

No idea on pricing or availability, but the Samsung Galaxy Grand should keep the busiest of bees happy thanks to its Dual SIM capability. Are you interested in picking one up?

LG has two new Google TV models at CES 2013

by Edwin - on December 24th, 2012

CES 2013 looks set to be a blast, as with all other editions of CES in the past. What kind of newfangled technology can we look forward to in a fortnight’s time as CES goes into full swing at Las Vegas? For starters, we do know that LG Electronics will be introducing an extended Google TV range, where the new models will be known as the GA7900 and GA6400, and these bad boys will deliver an outstandingly intuitive user experience at a size that ought to suit everyone, while meeting more consumers’ expectations than ever before.

Sporting Google’s latest platform as well as LG’s redesigned Magic Remote Qwerty, they will both work together in order to enhance the effectiveness of Voice Search and the PrimeTime quick guide. With the inclusion of an updated Smart Home, it is said to also add to the user experience by offering convenient, streamlined access to VoD (Video on Demand), YouTube and additional apps. You will be able to discover exciting new content from the rich pool of choices that are available on LG Google TV in a way that is easier than ever before. Not only that, the premium model will throw in LG’s advanced Cinema Screen design for an undeniably sleek and modern finish.

If you are an avid gamer, you will be stoked to hear that LG Google TV will offer the OnLive app pre-installed, where it will turn your TV into an incredible gaming platform without the need to purchase a separate console. I still think that this kind of setup will not work as well as a regular dedicated console, but hey, at least the app will let you enjoy hundreds of high quality video games available instantly from the cloud. With CINEMA 3D TV functionality, the LG Google TV uses FPR technology that will keep movie buffs and gamers happy by delivering a great 3D effect without the distracting flicker. Any takers?

General Electric Durathon battery to power buses

by Edwin - on December 23rd, 2012

We do seem to be making a move to electric vehicles slowly but surely, as the world catches on with the idea of global warming being a disaster. Hybrid vehicles are enjoying a pretty good sales run at this point in time, although the percentage is far from dominating the auto sales market. Well, having more efficient people movers in large cities are important, and so too, would making sure that these public transportation arteries are run by environmentally friendly vehicles. General Electric intends to answer this clarion call with the Durathon battery that they claim is cheaper to power buses using clean energy.

Basically, the Durathon battery will be used in tandem with a lithium battery and a hydrogen fuel cell, where this combination makes it possible for the vehicle to achieve full performance with a much smaller fuel cell compared to previous attempts. The battery is built upon its predecessors, where previous tests with a dual-battery system on a clean fuel hybrid transit bus, working alongside a high-energy density sodium battery with a high-power lithium battery did the trick. This is somewhat similar to a previous attempt by Harvard scientists to create a fuel cell which can produce and store energy, where the gist of the idea is to merge the power of acceleration that is made possible by lithium batteries, alongside the storage capacity of sodium batteries such as the Durathon, to deliver the best of both worlds.

Since having a decent range is one major concern for electric vehicles, statistics have shown that this should not be a major worry for bus operators, as most of the transit buses that circulate on American roads travel less than 100 miles (160.9 km) each day. With 846,000 buses registered in the US, just pause for a moment and imagine if all of them switched to cleaner, emissions-free energy systems, the total amount of emissions reduced would definitely be a significant amount.

GE claims that next year will see thousands of Durathon batteries shipped from its Energy Storage business in Schenectady, New York, to customers in the telecommunication arena, where markets like Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia will benefit the most. We’re all for green energy, how about you?

Base Two Binary Clock

by Edwin - on December 23rd, 2012

Everyone needs a clock of sorts to tell the time, but with the modern day smartphone and tablet being a staple device for most folks we have ended up relying on them to help us tell the time. The watch has become a fashion accessory (and an investment for those who fork out thousands for it) instead of being a staple contraption that you wear around your wrist, but there’s one thing for sure â€" clocks are still here to stay, especially when you are at home. If you happen to have a rather geeky persuasion, why not go all out and pick up as nerdy a clock as possible â€" with the $69.95 Base Two Binary Clock being a prime candidate?

This is one idiosyncractic clock that relies on binary notation to display the time, where it will mimic the same on-and-off calculation as electronic systems from the beginning of the computer age. There will be half a dozen columns of blue LED lights, wherein every two columns will represent the digits for hour, minute, and second. From bottom to top in each column, there will be individual lights that represent the values 1, 2, 4, and 8. All you need to do is add the values of lit units and voila, you are able to decode the digit represented by each column. Depending on your choice, you can set the Base Two Binary Clock to a 12- or 24-hour convention, with three brightness settings to choose from.

Powered by AC, there is the option to stash in a trio of AA batteries to keep it going as well, nifty when the apocalypse happens and there is no power from the grid.

Lego Water Bottle

by Edwin - on December 22nd, 2012

Everyone loves to play around with Lego, don’t they? After all, the extremely precise Lego bricks from Denmark magically stack up and connect to one another (where possible) without being off by a bit. There has been many pretenders to the throne, but none so far have been able to usurp Lego from its numero uno position. Well, an iconic part of Lego would be the Lego minifigs, where the top of their yellow heads have this connecting bit for you to add some other pieces of Lego to it, like an antenna for comic relief. Why not let the whole world know just how engrossed you are with Lego by bringing the $16.49 Lego Water Bottle to work?

With the Lego Water Bottle, you can basically share all of your adventures with the head of the iconic Lego minifig. To clean it is a breeze, just like how you would separate two Lego pieces that are stuck together. All you need to do is unscrew the bottom and you will gain access to the innards that delivers a thorough wash. Since it is PVC, BPA and Phthalate free, you know that the Lego Water Bottle would be perfect for your little ones â€" and you, even. Just don’t microwave this 9.75″ tall water bottle and you’re good to go, although it is food and dishwasher safe.

Receptor BUG communication helmet

by Edwin - on December 22nd, 2012

If there is one thing that one cannot avoid in life (other than death and taxes, of course), it would be fashion. Since our ancestors ditched the fig leaf, you can more or less say that mankind has been on a quest to dress as well as possible, even more so in social functions and events, and more often than not to be as attractive as possible. After all, we are not peacocks who do have beautiful feathers to strut, do we? And most of us do not look that flattering in our birthday suits, either. Well, if you are going to go on plenty of rough-and-tumble adventures during the winter, you might as well make the most of it by looking nice and listening to your favorite inspiring tunes, and this is where the Receptor BUG communication helmet comes in handy.

It does not make sense to cram a pair of headphones in between your noggin and a helmet, as that is the perfect recipe for discomfort, which is why ski and snowboard helmet manufacturer POC has decided to work with their engineering team in order to come up with a special helmet that will integrate a set of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones into the neck roll.

The Receptor BUG Communication will be inspired by the Receptor BUG, which so happens to be one of the Swedish company’s most popular helmet models. Apart from enjoying your favorite tunes, you can also take phone calls, adjust the volume level, and skip tracks thanks to the a 1.3 m (4.3 ft) long cable with integrated microphone and remote control which will hook up to a smartphone.

The Receptor BUG Communication is not that lightweight though, but you should not notice it too much at 550 grams a pop, where black and white are the colors you can choose from. You can pick it up from January 2013 onward in sizes ranging from XS to XXL, where it will retail for around $337 each.

Everyone Needs a Cardboard Bike

by Alison - on December 21st, 2012

Bikes become more efficient every year. Mechanics improve plus technology and metals make things lighter and more mobile.  More and more people are going eco-friendly and moving to pedal commuting thanks to these efficiencies. How much more efficient can a bike get?

Designer Izhar Gafni thinks bikes can go much further when it comes to efficiency. This year he finalized design of a mostly cardboard bike called the Alfa. All components are recycled materials. The belt-driven bike means no maintenance is required. Alfa weighs just 20lbs. but can support UP TO 485LBS! The concept evolved from that fact that when you fold paper or cardboard it becomes not two but three times stronger. That makes sense. Ever try to tear a pile of papers? Oh, the other great part about Alfa is the fact the estimated cost will be $9-$12. Let’s see: 100% recycled materials, can support 24 times its weight and costs less than $15. I think we have a winner. Gafani spent three years designing Alfa. See the video below to learn about the process. Where will Alfa lead? Who knows. But the thought that a 100% sustainable form of transportation exists should at least lead us to ask what else is possible in preserving our planet.

Mirrorcase for iPhone

by Edwin - on December 20th, 2012

There are smartphone cases, and then there are smartphone cases. If you are looking for something unique to stuff your spanking new iPhone into, then you would not be able to go wrong with the Mirrorcase for iPhone. After all, what more can you ask for in a protective case that also doubles up with an extension of an angled mirror? Basically, this embedded mirror is not meant for you to check out your pearly whites after a meal with a hot date to make sure that there are no bits and pieces of food stuck inside, but rather, the angled mirror allows you to snap photos of other folks without having to be in the direct line of sight of your subject matter. When you do not see the back of your handset aimed at people, then folks would not get suspicious, and will continue to act naturally.

There is one thing however, don’t you think that folks will feel that something is just not quite right when they take a look at the Mirrorcase, simply because there is this unsightly bulge at the back? Surely your mates would ask you if they could have a look at it, and upon discovering what the angled mirror is for through simple deduction, they might just reel back, aghast in horror and start to wonder for just how long you’ve been a pervert.

Once all those thoughts pass through their minds, and they become conscious of all the moments in the past when hanging out with you and then performing some sort of unsavory physical act that could have gotten captured on a camera via the Mirrorcase, they would then turn to you and ask where they can get the Mirrorcase for iPhone themselves.

The Mirrorcase for iPhone will not cost too much, at $49.95 a pop, and I would be careful with it if I were you, as mirrors generally don’t react too well to drops.

Optisort figures out dead batteries, sorts them accordingly

by Edwin - on December 20th, 2012

Getting rid of old and exhausted batteries is definitely an issue in the modern world, where more and more folks are able to afford pieces of consumer electronics such as toys and devices that run on, well, batteries. There is a proper way to get rid of old and unwanted batteries, as just simply throwing it into the landfill is not going to bode well for our earth in the long run, considering the kind of toxic material that one would find in the battery itself. Obviously, trying to sort out all of the different types of batteries which arrive at a recycling depot would definitely be an extremely tedious experience. Humans would find it tedious, robots, well, robots don’t have any feelings, and it would just be “another day at work” for them. The Optisort is such a robot, where it is capable of recognizing approximately 2,000 kinds of batteries, and currently sees action in sorting out around 33% of batteries recycled in the UK.

You know how it is â€" if there is a problem that is in your way, finding a working solution would be best, and the machine proved that saying right after being the brainchild of Claes StrannegÃ¥rd, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) researcher with Sweden’s University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. He was going through his own garbage and must have felt bummed to do all the sorting, where he then contacted Swedish recycling company Renova. With the universities and Renova working together, the Optisort was ‘born’.

Batteries go through the Optisort via a conveyor belt, where each one will be shot by the machine’s camera, compared to an existing database of different batteries until a match is made. Depending on the battery’s chemical content, a jet of compressed air will then come into play, directing the battery into a designated bin. It can process up to ten batteries per second, and as the Optisort’s AI system lets it learn from what it “sees,” it is even capable of recognizing damaged or dirty batteries. Never send a human to do a machine’s job, right?

Portable Performance

by Alison - on December 19th, 2012

Plenty of cool looking Bluetooth speakers exist in this day and age. You can get them in shapes of cartoon characters or to fit with your interior or various other iterations. Some are of good enough size to fill a room. Others are meant to use on-the-go. Those of us who have used portable speakers know that the chances of getting quality audio are slim. Often times you pay for the form factor or durability. Why sacrifice though?

Boombotix â€" makers of the Boombot1 and Boombot2 portable Bluetooth speakers â€" are back with the Boombot REX. Why REX? After the deep ‘boom’ of T-Rex footsteps. Because that is what you get with two 36mm drivers and a bass woofer. Yes, a portable speaker with true 2.1 sound enabled to reach 90dB (@2ft). A noise canceling microphone and 3 buttons means you can control your calls, music or even talk to Siri. And you can do all of it with your phone or tablet put away. The rugged body, grip-friendly design, water resistance  and built-in clip mean REX goes anywhere. Clip it to your backpack, bike, tent, belt loop, car or wherever you want to hear your tunes or take a call. Recharge REX via USB and get 6 hours of audio too. Reserve a unit on Kickstarter for $70, where they have blown away their goal. Production is slated to begin at the end of this month. If your life involves being on-the-go with access quality audio performance hop on board the Boombot REX train.

Pedal-Powered Holiday Decor

by Alison - on December 19th, 2012

We at CG hope you enjoy the festive decorations this holiday season! I am sure that many of you do up your own house â€" inside or out or both â€" or maybe you pile the family in the car to drive by the best local houses in your town. Then there are public displays on main streets and of course shopping malls. Taking in some lights and decorations really does help get a person in the spirit.

Southbank Centre, London’s famous arts venue, is one of those great places to take in the decorations. And this year you can help light up the glorious trees on display! Yes, you! Southbank Centre called on Electric Pedals and Vivid Design Works to build two pedal powered Christmas trees. Over 1 kilometer of LED lights are strung among the two 7.5 meter trees which are powered by 10 sets of pedals â€" 5 surrounding each tree. Passers-by are welcomed to pedal away on the stationary pedals and see the results.  Take your pick of pedals too â€" with adult style, BMX for kids and even hand powered versions.

How is it going over? On a recent weekend afternoon there was rarely a bike available. The people power over 40 days will save approximately 192kWh in electricity, enough to power 1.5m hours of laptop use. If you are in London from now until January 7th take a trip south of the Thames. The trees are on display just outside the Royal Festival Hall (between the Hungerford and Waterloo Bridges if you are not to familiar with London). Chip in this holiday season to show off the beauty of London Christmas lights. And if not in London check Electric Pedals’ Facebook page for more pictures.

A Bladeless Ceiling Fan

by Alison - on December 18th, 2012

Whether Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall the need for air circulation exists. Sometimes it is a matter of blowing around the heat coming from the vent. Other times the cold air needs to flow. And other days the weather is perfect â€" just stagnant â€" and a fan becomes a savior. Ceiling fans have certainly become a necessity in many rooms. But have you ever been in a room with a short ceiling? Nope, no fan. Or how about those ceiling fans that make too much racket. The ‘whir whir’ of a noisy fan sure can ruin a good movie night. And the airflow from a typical ceiling fan is far from consistent. One person always seems to be in the vortex while others feel nothing.

The Exhaleâ„¢ Fan look to revolutionize the meaning of a ceiling fan. Their bladeless invention creates 360° airflow. How? Take a look at the video above. Using a sort of vortex airflow, Exhale pulls air in from below and spills it back out the sides. What you get is air passing over you from the side â€" similar to a breeze. The unit offers a remote control like other ceiling fans, a stylish, unobtrusive design and 9 color options.

Exhale launched on Indiegogo in November and quickly reached their $35,000 goal. They will commence production in Q1 2013 and you can sign up to learn when pre-orders can be placed on their website. If you are looking for an alternative to the bladed ceiling fan I suggest you visit their site or Indiegogo page to learn more about this unique approach to a home necessity.

Self-Portraits With Ease

by Alison - on December 18th, 2012

Check out the pictures on your phone. I am willing to bet that you have at least one self-portrait. Maybe it is you, or maybe you and someone else. But you know that look. Your arm is outstretched to one side and you are usually not centered. Don’t get me wrong, the ‘flip’ option some phone cameras has helps. But you still have to stretch your arm out to get the photo. Not really a natural pose.

What all self-portrait takers need is a Remote Shutter from Gizmon. Compatible with iPhone 3GS through 5, iPad2 and new iPad and iPod touch (gen. 4+) â€" simply plug in to the headphone jack and you can remotely click away. The button looks like an old film roll and is available in red, green or yellow for $23 on Amazon. The retractable cord enables you to stretch out if needed too. Gizmon also offers a variety of old school camera looking iPhone cases, which the shutter is also compatible with if you want to go real retro. So take your self-portraits with ease and make yourself look natural. Or if using a tripod set things up and snap like a pro. But don’t strain and stretch to take the pictures.

Neogeo X Gold limited edition to roll out this week

by Edwin - on December 17th, 2012

Back in the days when the SNES and Sega Genesis were duking it out on the home video game console front, there were some other side players that you might be able to recall if you think hard enough. How about Atari’s Jaguar, Panasonic’s 3DO and the Neogeo to boot? Well, you can more or less say that Atari has long since quit the hardware business and focused just on video games alone, but the same cannot be said of Neogeo. Well, this time round we have the Neogeo X Gold limited edition that is set to be delivered to the mass market later this week.

Tommo, Inc. has partnered with SNK PLAYMORE, and hence decided to announce the Neogeo X Gold Limited Edition entertainment system that will be made available via select online retailers across North America and Europe later this week. In order to help celebrate the release of the Neogeo X Gold limited edition as well as the 20th anniversary of the Neogeo console, Tommo has come up with an epic trailer in order to support the launch of the highly anticipated system while rousing up public interest.

The Neogeo X Gold limited edition is basically a two-in-one system which will not only function as a handheld game console, but it also works equally well as a home arcade entertainment system, where it will be accompanied by the Neogeo X Arcade Stick and the Neogeo X Station, where the latter is a replica of the Neogeo AES console which paved the way for memorable Neogeo titles to be enjoyed on a big screen format â€" never mind if it is over a monitor or via HDMI or composite cable.

The Neogeo X Gold Limited Edition will comprise of a 4.3″ LCD display, stereo speakers, 16:9 and 4:3 display options, and it comes pre-loaded with 20 classic Neogeo AES games. Any takers?

Burrito Bomber UAV delivers food to the hungry

by Edwin - on December 17th, 2012

Fast food delivery is not something new, and has been around for quite some time already, ensuring that gamers who are glued to the front of their TVs will be able to receive the right kind of sustenance, while they continue on their quest to complete whatever game that has gotten them engrossed until now. Well, most of the food that is delivered to the doorstep is done on a two wheeler simply because it is far easier to get around town on a motorbike compared to a car. Of course, if you were to fly, things would be far easier, wouldn’t it? This is where the Burrito Bomber comes in, where a flying drone gets the job done instead.

The Burrito Bomber is made possible thanks to a team of designers over at Darwin Aerospace, where this particular UAV has been specially outfitted with a release mechanism and autopilot controls, allowing it to take food orders as well as air drop them at a person’s location in a matter of minutes. Needless to say, you will need to factor in the amount of time required to prepare the food that has been ordered as well.

The UAV of choice would be the Skywalker X-8 FPV/UAV Flying Wing (how apt for the name, does it require one to have a certain amount of midi-chlorians to work it?) for its frame, while the group built a delivery mechanism out of a Quantum RTR Bomb System that has a canister built from a 3-inch diameter mailing tube, in addition to some custom 3D printed parts. All navigation will be handled by an ArduPilot control system, where the developers had already pre-programmed waypoints for the drone to follow on autopilot, or for more fun (and perhaps an increase in the percentage of accidents), one can manually control the aircraft thanks to the video feed from a built-in camera. Definitely a big boy’s toy, this.

Gund Nyan Cat 6 inch Plush with Sound

by Edwin - on December 16th, 2012

Now here is a meme that has been brought into existence in our corporeal world instead of being just another animated GIF that has caught the attention of millions worldwide â€" the Nyan Cat. Of course, you will be able to touch, hold and cuddle one of the more notable memes in recent years, coming in the form of the $11.99 Gund Nyan Cat 6 inch Plush with Sound. It will get right to work by playing the all-too-familiar Nyan Cat theme whenever you give it a nice squeeze, and you can opt for the original or 8-Bit Heart flavors, depending on which design appeals to yo more.

I am guessing that playing with the Gund Nyan Cat 6 inch Plush with Sound will automatically be able to elicit smiles from those around you, as I have yet to meet someone who does not find the Nyan Cat cute. Of course, the theme that accompanies it is another matter altogether, but who can resist a kitty that leaves a trail of rainbow behind? There is just something magical about the Nyan Cat, and having it in the car you’re driving in could be useful to melt the heart of an officer who pulled you over for speeding in a 20mph zone.

Robotic mannequins invade South Korea

by Edwin - on December 16th, 2012

Mannequins are mannequins â€" a somewhat humanoid shape (more often than not in the shape of a lady than a man, for obvious reasons that the ladies love to shop for clothes more than men), and they are lifeless and motionless items that sit pretty behind a departmental store’s glass display. I am quite sure that some of us with an overactive imagination would sometimes wonder what happens when the lights are turned off at night, and a scenario from “Night at the Museum” works itself out, although this time around, it would not be prehistoric items that come to life, but rather, them mannequins. Well, the day has come slightly closer, as a robotic mannequin developed by IMD Communications will be able to pose itself for customers in a South Korean fashion store.

Obviously South Korea and Japan are rivals not only on the robotics front, but basically when it comes to technology (cars, computers, smartphones, tablets, TVs, home appliances, you name it), they have a keen competition between one another, but a healthy respect, too. South Korea seem to have the upper hand here when it comes to their robot mannequins that will come in three varieties, where each of them has been named after an Indian god and programmed with its own modeling behaviors.

Endrani has been described to be a 30-something woman who exudes elegance, while Dipani highlights women’s confidence and creativity, with Marian, last but not least, being the most dynamic of the trio, as “she” symbolizes strength and the outdoors.

These robots will come with moving limbs that make it far easier for store clerks to dress and undress the mannequin, and you would most probably see them at high end boutiques considering the initial outlay that the boutique owners will need to fork out in the first place. No idea on pricing details on the South Korean mannequins, but cheap should not be part of the equation.

Flask Tie comes with hidden flask inside

by Edwin - on December 15th, 2012

Once in a while, a really zany idea crops up â€" and here we are with the $25 Flask Tie that is clearly pretty much self descriptive. To put it in a nutshell, the Flask Tie would make for the ideal piece in any executive’s wardrobe, although it has an added advantage of sporting a removable hidden flask pouch within. Just in case you were wondering what kind of company is able to think of such an item, it is the brainchild of the very same company that delivered the Pillow Tie to the masses. You will be able to choose from a range of slanty striped color combos, and the hidden pouch within has enough space to hold half a pint (8oz) of your favorite beverage.

If you want to be sneaky about bringing in a little “happy juice” into the office, then the Flask Tie is the way to go. We highly recommend that you do not pour in your favorite hot beverage inside, as it is not going to be too comfortable at all, and neither will it give you the kind of buzz that your “happy juice” would. This seems to be quite a worthy stocking stuffer this coming Christmas, don’t you think so?

Handcuffs that shocks prisoners

by Edwin - on December 15th, 2012

You know what they say â€" if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The thing is, how do you really know whether a particular thing is broken or not when the wheels of imagination and innovation have stopped spinning a long, long time ago? Do you think that there are far better alternatives to the modern day handcuffs, perhaps one that is energy based like how we have seen in some science fiction movies? Of course, what we are asking for is not for security companies or the research arm of the military to come up with a new kind of handcuff that “reinvents the wheel”, but rather, an improvement on the current design. Basically, handcuffs are steel restraints at the moment, but the future might just usher in a high-tech pair that delivers electric shocks.

Yes sir, watch prisoners toe the line even more if U.S. Patent Application 20120298119, Scottsdale Inventions, LLC of Paradise Valley, Arizona, were to roll off the production lines of a factory somewhere in the world. Basically, this pair of high-tech handcuffs will work like an electric eel, delivering electrical shocks to prisoners via an incorporated Taser-like system that is connected to wireless controls and sophisticated sensors.

You could say that the Scottsdale cuffs are somewhat like a combination of invisible fences and training collars that see action when training dogs. The canine versions do provide a mild joy buzzer of a shock, but the cuffs that is meant to be worn by prisoners could actually deliver a shock that is powerful enough to immobilize a prisoner. They will be built based on the principle of the Taser, which relies on electrodes to administer high-voltage, low amperage shocks that are capable of disrupting a person’s voluntary nervous system.

Well, this particular idea could eventually be extended to see action in an ankle cuff, restraining belt, straitjacket, harness, facial restraint, helmet or neck collar, which means being a prisoner is no longer any fun â€" not that it was in the first place anyway, and it will certainly make those bad boys behind bars have second thoughts about throwing their weight around.

PhoneSuit Flex Micro Battery Pack for smartphones

by Edwin - on December 14th, 2012

In this day and age, we tend to take our smartphones for granted, and sure, the kind of technology that our phones pack do seem to last longer than normal while offering more and more functions, but there are still moments in life where one might have just forgotten about charging up the smartphone for the day’s events ahead. Well, perhaps in order to prevent those “doggone it!” moments, there is always a device like the PhoneSuit Flex Micro Battery Pack, which as its name suggests, is a portable, “on the go” battery that was specially designed to deliver instant power to energy hungry smartphones.

How does the PhoneSuit Flex Micro Battery Pack work? Touted as one of the smallest and most powerful battery packs that are currently available in the market, it will sport a high capacity 2600 mAh battery that is packed in a device which measures roughly the size of a person’s thumb.

The PhoneSuit Flex’s tiny size and integrated connector tip will enable users of it to hook up the battery straight to their smartphone when traveling. The PhoneSuit Flex will even remain attached and securely in place even as you use the smartphone, making it one of the more ideal solutions for folks who want the advantage of portable power without having to worry about the bulk of a battery case, or in some other cases, a large battery pack solution.

A Bed Head Savior?

by Alison - on December 13th, 2012

If you don’t have it, someone you know has bed head. Beloved bed head, That condition where after a night of sleep hair looks like something straight out of a modern art museum. No particular direction or purpose. Sort of like some of the Hollywood mop-top/unkempt looks  â€" Joaquin Phoenix, Kate Bosworth, etc. And trying to brush out bead head proves virtually impossible. Nothing but a full submergence in water seems to work.

In the past we highlighted products from Thanko, the Japanese company who came up with cool â€" but maybe not necessary â€" devices like the silent keyboard and USB lunch box. They are back again to help bed head-i-ans of the world. Since water tames bed head, Thanko thought they should put it into a hairbrush. Meet the USB-powered, self-misting hairbrush. Plug into any USB port to charge up the unit. Then fill the 15ml tank with water. Flip the power on and a fine stream of mist comes from the top of the handle. The reservoir will enable about 30 minutes of uninterrupted misting â€" though you would probably be soaked by then. Recharge after every couple hours of use to keep misting. The device is available via Thanko’s website for about $75 US. Hhhmmm, dampening the brush in the sink is certainly a less expensive alternative. But if you prefer to brush and dampen at the same time, check out this device and defeat bed head with technology.

Logitech Bluetooth Easy-Switch Keyboard for Mac announced

by Edwin - on December 12th, 2012

Logitech has a couple of goodies announced for Mac users, and one of them would be the Logitech Bluetooth Easy-Switch Keyboard for Mac, while the other is the Logitech Rechargeable Trackpad for Mac, but we will look at the former in greater detail for now. The Logitech Bluetooth Easy-Switch Keyboard for Mac will boast of Logitech Easy-Switch technology that is not different from the extremely popular Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810, allowing you to switch from typing an e-mail on your Mac to taking down notes on your iPad, in addition to replying to a text on your iPhone, all through the simple press of a button. This sure as heck beats reconfiguring the different devices mentioned so that it will play nice with your Bluetooth enabled keyboard.

For instance, the Logitech Bluetooth Easy-Switch Keyboard can pair with up to three Apple devices simultaneously, and it will sport all of the familiar Mac layout features of the keys any Mac fanatic would expect, and they definitely include Command, Brightness and Mission Control. With a sleek aluminum design that matches the Apple style, it will not look out of place whether placed beside the Mac, iPad or iPhone.

Apart from that, it has an attractive design (so that your Mac loving friends won’t look at it like a pariah peripheral), where this keyboard was specially built to maximize usability and power. Sporting a bright illumination of its backlit key characters, it is extremely easy to read in low light conditions or at night, making it a snap to type in just about any other environment. The keyboard will be able to turn on its illumination whenever your hands approach, while it has a light sensor that helps it automatically dim or brighten based on the amount of light in the room.

The Logitech Bluetooth Easy-Switch Keyboard will arrive in the US and across the pond sometime next month, meaning this is not a good candidate for Christmas 2012, retailing for $99.99 a pop.

Kid-Friendly Kindle Environment

by Alison - on December 12th, 2012

The Kindle has revolutionized the world of reading. Most of us probably had that “nah, I like the feel of a book” notion at some point. But we obviously got over it. Younger generations certainly take to e-reading easier than us old folks. Kids navigate like pros. It is scary to think that younger generations may know nothing but e-reading. Yet not many of us are opting to buy a full Kindle for the kids yet. If they could only share ours but have their own content.

Amazon just announced a new service to encourage kids to electronically read, while offering a great service to parents. Kindle FreeTime Unlimited offers a subscription service in which children get unlimited access to books, games, educational apps, movies and TV shows on a Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire HD  (and HD 8.9″ soon). Essentially it is the convenience of Amazon Prime Unlimited Instant Video. But it offers more than video and only offers content applicable to ages 3-8. No more parents having to guess what game the kids want to play. The voracious reader can keep reading with thousands of titles. If the kids get bored of the movie, no problem. Let them pick another! Profiles can be created for up to 6 children on one device, enabling their own personalized folder of content. Restrictions on types of content and usage time can also be set. And kids can’t log out of their own profile without the password. Pricing for the subscription is based on the number of children in the house. Amazon is offering a free one month trial to all Fire and Fire HD owners. It will come as a software update and users just log in before the middle of January to take advantage. Pricing for Prime members after the free trial is $2.99 a month for one child, $6.99 for up to six. Non-Prime users pay $4.99 for one child or $9.99 a month for up to six. So all you Kindle Fire users out there with kids using the device â€" let the kids have their own environment and access unlimited content with FreeTime Unlimited. And save yourself the headache of buying books, movies and the like and always have plenty of options.

Coming Soon: Black Cabs with Wi-Fi

by Alison - on December 11th, 2012

London is a busy town. Within the hustle and bustle are the hearts of many global brands, industries and interests and a bunch of tourists. People constantly come and go at all hours of the day, whether by mass transit, cabs or personal cars. Traffic becomes a nightmare. In fact, during the summer Olympics they cleared certain lanes to make them ‘Olympic officials and athletes only’ as one of the greatest fears was the traffic becoming a hindrance to the games. Another Olympic move was to add free wi-fi at select Underground stations â€" which will be expanded in the coming year. Next up? The black cabs.

Transport for London, the local transit authority, recently approved a plan to outfit the famous London black cabs with advertising funded wi-fi access beginning in 2013. A local startup company, Eyetease, will supply the technology and secure advertisers. “CabWifi” will offer 15 minutes of free service for watching a 15 second advertisement.  Service will occur on a Mi-Fi router via 3G and 4G networks. So whether you are a local business person catching up on email while en route to a meeting or a tourist not wanting to use expensive data roaming or any other type of “net needer” the black cabs will be your friend! And with this move London will continue to push itself to be a truly connected city.

A Grill and Then Some

by Alison - on December 11th, 2012

I don’t care if it is winter, spring, summer or fall. I love grilling! Don the cap and mittens, grab an umbrella or bask in the sun. The taste of anything grilled over wood or charcoal far exceeds that of oven cooked anything. But a grill alone really is not sufficient. It would be nice to cook other items on the grill. And what if you want to smoke something? That usually requires a whole new device. Surely some ancient civilizations figured out how to master the cooking of stuff without all our modern conveniences.

What many grilling aficionados have found is the importance of ceramic clay and the kamodo style cooking â€" added flavor and juiciness. Many cultures through the years have used these dome shaped vessels to cook with wood and later charcoal. So why not us? The kamodo market is growing. And the Big Green Egg® has proven to be the largest producer of the earthen cooking devices. Made with a ceramic originally developed for NASA, these green guys prove to be more stronger than the competition and provide better heat insulation.  Heck, they are so durable people hand them down from generation to generation. The precision temperature gauge means you can track your grilling up to 750° F (400° C). The Big Green Egg does more than grill too. Insert a plate setter to create indirect heat and use as an oven. And the ceramic’s properties enable it to sustain low temperatures â€" perfect for smoking. The Ceramic means no burning yourself on the grill too. Eggs come in 5 sizes, with plenty of accessories to compliment it. Units start at about $400, but check their locator to find your local egg dealer for prices as the Big Green Egg Company does not sell direct. And biggreenegg.com contains plenty of tips, ideas and recipes perfect for the device. So if grilling is key to your existence, check into the benefits of ceramic clay cooking and the one-of-a-kind Big Green Egg.

See Your Toast

by Alison - on December 10th, 2012

Sincere apologies to Coolest Gadgets readers. This toaster has been out for awhile and we failed to show you how cool it is! I love toast. I hate burnt toast. It seems like the toaster does fine one day and changes the next. Or someone adjusts the settings and I don’t notice. Before you know it you have the smoke detector beeping, charred bread and you are late for work.

For those (freaks like me!) who like to be in total control of the toasting experience just get a Vision Toaster by Magimix. Seriously, how easy is this? You can watch your toast not burn! Like most toasters you still have space and heating for 4 slices and preprogrammed modes for bagels, toast, reheat and defrost. Yep, slots are extra-wide for thicker stuff. Choose from red, white or black. And this toaster is rated for 30,000 uses â€" that is 82 years if you use it daily. Sure there may have been concept pieces like it in the past. But this is readily available at Williams Sonoma in the US for $199.95, or at Amazon.co.uk for £159.95. So ease the pain of burnt toast. Get toast the way you want to see it…literally.

Hands Free Navigation

by Alison - on December 10th, 2012

Garmin has almost become a noun on its own â€" like Xerox or Kleenex. Everyone knows what they do. Rightfully so, they are good at it! Their car and handheld devices save many of us from going the wrong direction. But what about those of us that want to have hands free while hiking or doing anything outdoors? Garmin has got a solution for that too.

Fagor Spoutnik microwave

by Edwin - on December 9th, 2012

Most of us would figure out that a microwave is, well, a microwave. After all, how many kinds of shapes and sizes can a humble microwave come in other than the standard issue rectangle? Apparently, more than that â€" if the designers want to get creative, that is. When talking about the Fagor Spoutnik microwave, we are looking at a space age design which will certainly send heads turning and tongues wagging whenever they take a peek into your kitchen. Why do we say so? Why, just take a look at the above image and you will know why for yourself!

Firstly, you can say that the most noticeable feature of the freestanding Spoutnik would be its transparent dome design, which paves the way for a 360-degree view of its interior. In this method, a user is able to observe the cooking process fully. Not only that, the dome that comes with it will also boast of a 28-cm (11-inch) turntable complete with grid lines, making it far easier to position the dish.

The Fagor Spoutnik will illuminate itself whenever the cooking process begins, changing from red whenever the dish starts to cook, and it goes all the way to blue when the dish is ready for eating. Just in case colors are not your cup of tea, things get even easier as the Spoutnik will also be able to emit an audible signal once the cooking has finished. Boasting a lever which paves the way for a smooth lifting of the dome that opens up to a 65-degree angle, this is one design that guarantees full access to the interior. Those who spend plenty of time in the kitchen would welcome this, especially since it makes life easier whenever you want to clean up the crusty residue within which is more often than not the result from microwave cooking.

You can pick up the Fagor Spoutnik for £179 a pop.

James Bond Remote Controlled Stunt Car

by Edwin - on December 8th, 2012

So you have watched Skyfall, and came away even more impressed with Danie Craig’s performance as the grittiest Bond to date. Of course, the thrills and spills were there, and there was also a Judge Dredd moment in the movie, not to mention the demise of a major character, but what you really loved Bond for was his suaveness that snagged him many a lady, in addition to the hot rides that he has over the years which enabled him to make an impossible escape once too many times. Enter the $69.95 James Bond Remote Controlled Stunt Car that helps you script your own Bond adventure and living it out â€" in your imagination.

This radio controlled car will be able to reproduce similar evasive banking maneuvers that were executed by the iconic British Secret Service agent 007. It is a faithful replica of an Aston Martin DBS V12, which ended up as Mr. Bond’s preferred vehicle in the later installments of the famous espionage movie series (after BMW’s time was up, thankfully). This unique ride comes with a tiny wheel which extends from the right undercarriage at your command, allowing it to lift the right front and rear wheels off the ground so that you can evade obstacles according to your whim and fancy. There is another button on the remote that makes the entire car pop wheelies or shoot up a ramp when the need arises.
